    Farmers blamed for global warming

Anyone see the following story in the National Post?

    How should farmers respond?

it is one thing to try to tell consumers to trade their gas guzzling suvs and cars for bikes and public transport...another to tell them to not eat or pay ten times more for their food......

plus you have to buy into the crap spewed from these environmental alarmists to even warrant a reply to such an article....

we should stop breeding, eating, driving and moving so we can save ourselves.....LOL

Green Peace has the ridiculous notion that resources were put on this earth for the use of any species other than humans. How to combat that mentality certainly is the quandary for those of us that are in a different dimension. At least we now know who to sell our carbon offsets to. I wonder what the carbon footprint is of the undulates and bears and squirrels??

The Green Peace guy on the Radio thought we should have a tax on our fertilizer and the money then distributed back to farmers for environmental efforts. Little does he know that farmers are already making plenty of environmental efforts. We use min. till, gps, we apply our fertilizer precicely. Another guy got on the phone and mentioned farmers should not be using agent orange to kill our crops before we combine them. Perhaps people need to be educated a little more.

The green peace organization believes we must use less fertilizer, but they do not back it up with any science. Less fertilizer means we must cut down more forest for land to produce crops. Then I heard they think we should not eat meat. I suppose that could solve the problem. Just how does one tell the world not to eat meat. I suppose if everyone was like the agent orange guy then anything is possible.

Too bad monsanto wouldn't come out with a chemical to mute uninformed environmentalists.

I'd give them money to spray toronto and vancouver.

            and california

              Hopperbin,

The documentary "Walking With Prehistoric Beasts", a BBC Video, interestingly concluded man's brain enlarged significantly, and developed into such a comparatively large instrument because he ate large quantities of MEAT...protein.

              Interesting.

I recall a number of farmers being pleased with the notion that they could make money selling carbon credits from their farms. I'm now seeing that they're only looking at one side of the equation. These sales would be more than offset by increased taxes on fertlizer and fuel. I seriously doubt that anyone would make money selling carbon credits; at best they would only be able to recoup part of their vastly increased tax bill.

Liberty you actually raise an awareness here. Those farmers that sold the carbon at 3.5 dollars per ton which in my opinion was undervalued while uncharted but could be say 100 dollars per ton under valued. Could they be on the hook someday to make the difference up or just miss out on the later opportunity.

I can't remember where I heard it, but
don't insects emit more gas then cows. It is difficult to phathom the number of gas emitting insects on the earth, however it is easier to blame cows, because they are more visible.

According to scientists, the reason insects affect the planet's carbon dioxide level is that the six-legged creatures eat and kill trees and other vegetation. http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/environment/climate_bugs.html

Plants account for up to a third of the methane in the earth’s ecosystem.

I wonder what their thoughs are on the 60 million bison that use to roam these prairie. It's amazing how the great masses can fall victim to the uneducated dribble of people with no clue on how the real world works.
