    Grain World

    Parsley,

    What about this?

    Register today!

The Food vs. Fuel debate will be the major topic up for discussion at GrainWorld 2008. With rapidly rising prices for grains and oilseed crops, the food and biofuel industries must adapt quickly to the changing environment. GrainWorld 2008 will examine the impact of the changing agricultural landscape on both industries.

This year’s conference takes place February 24-26 at the Fairmont Hotel in Winnipeg. View the agenda (PDF)

Western Canada’s leading annual agriculture conference brings the grains, oilseeds and livestock industry together with farmers, academics and government policymakers. Together, participants examine future trends and outlooks for all major agricultural sectors, and focus on how to make the most of upcoming opportunities. In addition to the Food vs. Fuel discussions, panellists and speakers will give direction on the overall Canadian economy, and provide outlooks for wheat, barley, oilseeds, pulse and special crops, beef and pork."

Perhaps we should go and learn something from the CWB?

Do you suppose the CWB could learn something?

      Parsley,

      They have!

There is no grain grower in the CDN "designated area" that can be trusted with the responsibility to execute a good marketing plan with discipline...

That is why we must maintain the CWB "single desk" to market our wheat and barley.

and I assume a famer's learning on the CWB is to trust and obey.

So then with "CWB Logic". There are therefore no "leading edge" farmers and there is no need for you to waste your time on going to "Grain World".

          Lifer,

          You missed the point!

The CWB is going to tell us how to market all our non-CWB produce!

Now that is value added value chain co-operation! Work together... to maximise returns... on all the farm produce we grow!

Kind of brings a tear to your eye... after the unbelievable job the CWB has done with malt the last couple of years! CWRS has had astounding value extracted in 06-07! The CWB proved this by paying more for feed barley... in the B pool... than it did for #1CWRS or malt barley!

How can we share this kind of premium on all our production?

I am just jiggling with delight and passion... the excitement is surging through my arteries and veins as we speak!

AND in 2007-08 it really looks like we have the privilage in sharing so much much more... with our CWB value chain partners! The opportunities to share are endless with the "single desk".

          Give the CWB a break!

Tom I was responding to the idea that:

"There is no grain grower in the CDN "designated area" that can be trusted with the responsibility to execute a good marketing plan with discipline"

It seems to be a correct statement on the mindset of the current CWB.

I hear this as meaning that there is little room for individual goals and vision in the designated area. No room for individual opinions that do not support the collective. If one is not able to think for themself would it not follow that one does not need to bother with being in debates about the future.

Wait till your told what to do with the produce you grew on behalf of the collective.

              Lifer,

The few who have central planning vision for agriculture on the Prairies are often self-proclaimed, all the while keeping a wary eye on potential-funding. Creating wealth themselves would bastardize their goals.

They fancy themselves as visionaries with a political path to follow, financed by the likes of you Lifer, what an appropriate pseudonym; a lifer who pays for Agstar's and Vader's and the CWB's central planning schemes.

Spend money like it's water and send per and snappy and the dunner.

                Thanks for that Parsley,

I am continually frustrated by the life sentence imposed on wheat and Barley.

I continue to reduce my own exposure to the crooks you refer to. I wish to understand the mindset of these "people" more because I believe that is what has to change.

I wonder what message is sent to these self proclaimed elite when farmers attend "grain world".

Let them have there own meetings. No farmers attend. What message would that send?

My handle was meant more to be in farming for life, a positive statement. Then it being a life sentence.

Hey, guys and gal(s), my dander and hackles are up a little. I'm part of the content selection committee for Grain World and I can tell you that CWB staff have a very small input into the content. And the input they have is not to "extend the CWB agenda".

Those of us on the committee work hard to make the agenda as much of a learning experience and benefit to the industry as possible. My only disappointment is that attendance is not 500 or 600 and that farmers don't make up 80% of the attendees instead of something less than 40 or 50%.

I think Tom4cwb has been there and I'd guess that even he would admit that he learned quite a bit.

There's one side benefit, too. Winterpeg has some of the best ethnic restaurants anywhere.

                    The point is this:

                    Who pays?

I'll write your language, since you are an abominably cool guy:

                        Central planners/CWBers/Grain Worlders/Oberg types/ get a plan-on because they

                        $_________$

                        (forced pooling accounts)

                        and then they get to

                        :-B

                        Happens every time.

                        But my redundant point is:

                        Who pays?

Yes, how many cwb staff members end up on the attendee list?

What point is there in any of them going if they want to ensure we continue to farm like my grandfather did?

                          What could they learn?

                              and here it comes, melvill:

How many "gratis" farmer attendees will going?

AND since you are in the know, What was the ratio of gratis farmer/staff awardings last year?

                              Mean, aren't I?
