More drivel and falsehoods from a CWB Director

Ritz fails to consult all farmers
    The Leader-Post
    Published: Friday, January 25, 2008
I was disappointed, although not surprised, to read Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz's response to the Canadian Wheat Board's CashPlus program for malting barley.

He dismissed the program out of hand and then said he has "repeatedly advised the board to consult with producers".

I have news for him -- the board not only consults with farmers every day, but the CWB is led by farmers.

Font:****I was elected to represent the farmers of District 7 in a hotly contested campaign that was fought and won largely on the issue of my support for single-desk selling.

The CashPlus program was developed in consultation with farmers and was presented to farm organizations for their feedback almost a month before its release.

In January, I presented the CashPlus program to a group of 160 farmers, all leaders in their communities. The response from this group of progressive, entrepreneurial farmers was positive.

To put that 160 number in perspective, that is 30 more farmers than there are members of the Western Barley Growers' Association, one of the two farm organizations the minister seems to "feel" worthy of consideration.

I must also point out that, as an elected director of the CWB, I have never banned those in my district with whom I disagree from participating in one of my forums. Ritz, however, has held closed-door consultations with his hand-selected farm groups and refused to invite representatives of groups that support "the single desk".

Might I suggest the minister consider taking his own advice and begin consulting with farmers, all farmers, not just the 13.8 per cent who agree with his government's agenda to destroy our single desk?

Uhm, yeah that's what the plebicite was all about.

    13.8%???

the real number is 62 per cent but who's counting right.

13.8% wanted open market only and about 48 per cent wanted a choice

36 per cent supported the status quo.

But again add in Rods comments from the other thread, doesn't this just prove that there is zero point in negotiating with these people.

    But here's Korny's rationalization,

We talked to 160 farmers and they liked our program so that gives us justifiaction to ram it down every farmers throat.

Agstar. Seems to me like you are saying because A. S. is not elected he is not allowed to question the actions of CWB directors.

Adam, don't worry these boys know there days are numbered!!

To the directors who are on this site, I ask this. Do you think it's a coincidence that the CWB comes out with all these FPC,DPC,BPC Cash Plus programs in the last 5 years, when they realized that the heat was on and we as farmers weren't going to lay down and take the CWB propaganda ant longer??

It's funny how when the CWB realized they were in trouble, the board of directors all sat down and realized "hey boys we're going to have to give the producers some options, cause I don't think they're buying are bullshit any longer and we might just lose our monoply." Hopefully producers can see through all your producer payment options for what the Board really is!!!!

By the way Mr.Directors, maybe you guys should recheck the results on the pleblicite again!! And if you need help with the math, take it to your next Directors meeting, I'm sure between you all you can figure it out!!!!

Agstar just what in Gods name does that have to do with anything???

George Bush was elected but guy like you wail and whine about what he does.

Steve Harper was elected as was Ritz as was Strahl as was David Anderson. A whole lot of people are elected big friggen deal.

If you think being elected something gives means your smarter or somehow superior to others, you're just plain out to lunch. The reality is Agstar politico's are some of the least respected people in our society and for good reason and cwb directers are just that only third rate politico's at best.

Are you so barren of original thought that this is the best retort you could come up with?

You're pathetic, the whole lot of you cwb directors are pathetic.

So get off your high horse Agstar and open your eyes to the real world.

Remarks of Ken Ritter re. barley plebiscite result
              News teleconference

              March 28, 2007

              Listen to webcast

Thank you for joining me this afternoon to discuss the results of the barley plebiscite......

The results of the barley plebiscite announced today are not overly surprising.

The CWB has been surveying farmers every year for the past 10 years and these results appear to be consistent with our annual findings.

So he presented it to 160 people.

Was that all at once in one place, at a trade show to those that stopped in, at 16 different meetings, visiting 8 hutterite colonies, ...????

Did everyone he spoke to like it? Did anyone object? If not, did that really mean that they liked it?

Were any changes made after these "consultations"???

One month from consultation to implementation??

                That is really "progressive".

Progressive can mean different things to different people, hey Vader?

Is there a reason the actual surveys are not put on the internet with the actual questions and answers so that all can see? The reason is CWB bullshit.

One reason that Cash Plus may have looked good to 150 farmers could be that program barley appeared OK, best guaranteed price in years. What if they do not make grade??? Actually price compared to what??? What if not make grade??? How much to pay then? Sucks to be the guy who grades feed and then what? Perhaps Saskfarmer will take it over.

Sorry , cannot resist. Where is all the money from the rejected malt contracts supposed to go? To the Pro?
Back to cash plus? So is that the insurance scheme?

I'd ask whether the entire program was put before this select group or just seleted items? Was there a discussion of the large spreads between the CWB's sales price and the price guaranteed to growers? Were any other pricing options discussed with these farmers?
