1. Did you know that Ralph Goodal took the tarrif IMPORT requirements out of the CWB Act? He only left in the EXPORT tarrif requirement.
What does this mean?
It means that Canadian maltsters can contract with farmers in Italy, or USA or Sweden to grow barley for them, and that grain can be shipped to Canada, and there will be no tarrifs, barriers to these barley imports.
FACT: Maltsters do not need to buy from the CWB.
IMPLICATIONS: Western barley growers will not have a domestic industry to sell to if they rely upon the CWB. (DA farmers cannot contract with any other country unless they sell their barley FIRST to the CWB.)
How to Solve:
1. Western farmers need to WORK WITH the maltsters, and look at them as partners, not as enemies.
2. Do not allow the CWB to speak on your behalf. See where its gotcha?
3. Familiarize yourself with malt. What it is, how it's made, what are the different specs, etc.
4. WORK to get the CWB the hell out of barley.
5. Work with your maltster as a team and think GLOBAL. He should know your farm by name. Invite him out for the weekend to look at the crop. He can bring the beer. Believe me, organics does this.
GLOBAL GLOBAL.
6. The Farmer-Maltster team can produce a product that is world famous.
The hardest part will be thinking up a good name. eh?
