wd9,

Perhaps there was proof of cause to fire.

Perhaps it came from staff. From the public. From her own boss.

Perhaps this resulted in a recommendation by the B of D to terminate her employment.

    The CEO did the firing.

    Are these plausable events?

The point is it has become a political event because of lack of clarification.

    No need.

tower: I read your posts a long time ago, about the single desk, and "democracy".

Your idea of democracy would legitimize sending all single desk children to Birkley UNiversity for free, to learn about the value of any single desk, (much as is now being done by the CWB, with chosen-few farmers attending "classes" what bs!!) and have the education paid for by forced pooling participants.

A democracy involves the freedom to chose.

You would not like it if a majority voted you off Agri-ville, though.

    Democracy. uh huh.

You wouldn't recognize it if you fell over it.

      Tower: Whoa, there fella.

A functioning market has EVERYTHING to do with respecting and honouring everyone’s rights. Without mutual respect and honour behind commitments, all you have is anarchy. What you suggest is not in the mandate of a market is actually what MAKES a market. What weakens a market is the inability to perform on commitments.

A very good example of this is the debacle we had last year with the malting industry. Maltsters had “committed” in good faith to buy from the CWB and take delivery of malt barley from farmers. They ended up having extreme difficulty getting the barley delivered – some, because the CWB prices and terms did not provide competitive prices and terms to farmers, some because, let’s face it, some farmers walked from “commitments” because the feed market was more enticing. More to the point, they did it because the system allowed it. All the while, the CWB sat on their hands saying there was nothing it could do. Oh, by the way, if the maltsters don’t fulfill its commitment to the CWB by not accepting delivery of the barley, they get penalized.

What this whole fiasco showed in brilliant colour and detail was that the CWB system doesn’t work on barley. Respect and honour of commitments are absent, thanks to the CWB system.

Next time you make a trade at any commodity exchange, just think to yourself how it would work in the absence of mutual respect and honour behind commitments.

The Boards of Directors of which I have some familiarity, are required to approve hirings and dismissals above a certain executive level. Executive VP and above is common. In a situation where a person is deemed dismissable, regardless of reason, the CEO would normally discuss the situation with the BOD Chairperson, and, if in agreement, the request would be tabled at the BOD human resources committee &/or the whole Board, depending on structure. The reason most dismissals are "without cause" is because Canadian labour laws and Canadian Judges require extreme misconduct to "find against" employees. Further more, the cost of legal process and counter productivity, coupled to the demand for "pictures", drives the conclusions to "without cause", and an agreement to contracts and normal severance. However, any dicussion outside the boardroom by anyone other than the Chair or CEO should result in resignation/dismissal of those who breach this confidentiality.....Bill

So much for the Chair of the BofD of the CWB

or the CEO of the CWB

for communicating information about the dismisal to the farm community in clear and timely fashion.

"Millions of dollars" for the CWB communications department paid out of the farmers' pooling accounts, though, and there still flows a steady stream of accusations, pages of innuendo, and an implieded lawsuit by one of the very directors that voted on the decision.

Or is this a Liberal grandstanding issue?

I am feeling a Conflict of Interest flush, again.

Simply poor comunication and action no doubt. Would i expect anything less from the CWB? Probably not. Most dysfunctional corporations operate that way. So blurred between the responsibility of board - CEO linkages is a recipe for disaster, both internally and publicly.

chaffmeister, whoa yourself fella, the only reason we have any kind of functioning marketplace is that there are laws and regulations. The reason we have all those laws and regulations is because enough of the marketplace players have no respect or honour for other participants. Therefore it is not the marketplace that is all about respect and honour it is the rule of law governing all those transactions.

The cwb is one embodiment of the rule of law.

The rule of law has to be based on something. Law for the sake of law is worthless.

Laws based on visions that include freedom, honor and respect can work.

Good Democracies have protection for the minorities as well.

Does anybody want some one to grow wheat for them or do we have to continue with this entitled stuff and the wheat will grow no matter what.

The rule of law should not slap a national tarrif on grain during wartime, and then when the war ends, discontinue the tariff for the Eastern half of the country, but continue and actually remodel the acceleration of the tariff for the Western part of the county.

                    That's sick.

What a sick notion to call that the rule of law.
