ICE (WCE) canola prices - no longer public

I heard a rumour that ICE will no longer post public canola prices. Has anyone else heard this?

Yup, you're right. Full details are available at:

    http://www.wce.ca/NoMoreQuotes.pdf

I just talked to The ICE, formerly known as WCE, about this and they say that the Atlanta HQ has no plans to program delayed quotes into their web site. The WCE site will be shut down entirely in mid March.

I have to confess this really frustrates me but even moderators are not allowed to post a whole paragraph of expletives!!

The ICE, formerly WCE, quotes won't come from the new ICE web site. Anyone wanting them will have to get them from other quote providers. Several are listed on the above link I gave.

WCE quotes gave on-going volume and open interest. I wonder if private quote providers will give those numbers. Somehow I doubt it.

Damn Yankees! Woops. Wasn't supposed to say that.

Hey, bobn, the site you pointed out carries volume and open interest stats. That's good.

melvill, I too have been using the tfc charts for years, they give you all the history you want and the charts are easier to read, than the wce. but hope they'll be available after Mar 15

Thank you for the links to other sources. I still think this is a troubling move. Public prices are good enough for MGEX and CBOT, why not ICE?

Put simply - "data is money". Why give something away that you can sell? Look for ICE to market this information at a higher price in the future. I wonder if TFC charts will still be able to post this data as I'm guessing they get it from the same "free" source that will be disappearing.

ICE Futures Canada (formerlyWinnipeg Commodity Exchange) will stop providing delayed quotes on the
                    www.wce.ca website on Feb 28, 2008.
Delayed Quotes are available on a number of other websites. The general public will still be able to view WCE
delayed quotes for free on the Internet as they will be available on other websites.
How to Search for Commodity Quotes on the Internet
If you do a search from a search engine, such as www.google.ca, on ‘Online financial quotes for
commodity traders’ or ‘delayed canola quotes’ you will receive a list of websites that provide delayed
                    quotes.
Real Time Quotes are available from our quote vendors, refer to
                    http://www.wce.ca/ContractsMarketInfo.aspx?first=quotevendors&second =quotevendorlisting for a list of our
Quote Vendors. Some of these vendors also supply delayed quotes.
Please contact Doug Betz at doug.betz@theice.com or 204-925-5006 if you have any questions.
