    Charlie;

    THE CDN flour mill will ask for... and many times get the lower domestic price input from that country.

    THis is exactly why Millers/Maltsters like the CWB... a good sob story... gets a huge discount off the cost of the wheat... a subsidy by any legal term.

    Because farmers cannot stop this from happening... cause the pools don't allow transparent price for sales values... the farmers don't complain.

    THere can be no question that this DOES undercut international wheat flour and wheat prices. The US IS right to challenge STE's... because of these very important issues!

    So the Alberta Bill 207, could easily stop the CWB from price discounting into the international market place... (by providing competition and transparent pricing options) and raise the stability and price of wheat and barley products in the world market!

    THIS is where the AB gov. could allow AB farmers to win... Start issuing no cost export licenses like OWPMB did!

      Sorry Tom I am not sure even you believe that is true.
      You are the one who believes the market will always find its true level based on supply and demand.
      CWB subsidies farm bills do any of them, can they ever,really make a difference?

        Ianben;

        The CWB without a saftey mechanism... transparent markets and competition... cannot work in the interests of farmers.

        I assume you meant your comment to apply to the following;

        "THis is exactly why Millers/Maltsters like the CWB... a good sob story... gets a huge discount off the cost of the wheat... a subsidy by any legal term.

        Because farmers cannot stop this from happening... cause the pools don't allow transparent price for sales values... the farmers don't complain.

        Ianben, the reason that millers/maltsters expand in Canada is not because of growing Canadian consumption/commpetitive low cost operating... it was simply a cheap, low cost stable supply of feed stock for the plants they opperate.

        The CWB was able to beat and lower prices anywhere any time on the planet, and transfer these prices to the multinational miller/maltsters door in western Canada.

        THis is simply the reason why the multinationals have bought all the CDN domestic "designated area" processing facilities... they work on margins... and the CWB provides profitable... stable, continuous margins...

        Bets on what happens to API?

        API didn't have the leverage or linkages to compete, or the market intelegence to bluff the CWB into lower supply prices... bankruptcy

              This is the piece I do not think is credible.

              Can anything raise the stability and price of wheat in the world market?

              If the CWB means a multinational invests in Canada and not somewhere else in the world is this good or bad?

              Does the CWB treat its Canadian multi-national customers like we treat our long term straw customers.

              Seeing a customers needs as well as our own so can we both survive into the future must make sence.

              Is a discounted sale better than no sale at all?

              I would rathe deal with a company making a profit then one making a loss.

              Will any individual farmers be hurt by
              API like they would over here?

                Ianben;

                The CWB pooling accounts will likely be hurt... and individuals who deffered income may not be paid... yes there will likely be hurt farmers.

                If API is bought by someone with deep pockets, then everyone could be paid.
