How stupid is the American Government. Their bio fuels policy has created new demand for grain. Their subsidy level for bio fuels is a fraction of their previous farm subsidies. By cleaning up surplus supplies the market for all grains has risen. We also have a market that more closely tracks the energy market which must be all bad. We want $4.00 wheat when oil is over $100. per barrel. I wish we could go back to the way it was where our role was to produce cheap grain for the world and give it away at a loss. Then we could run to the government for more program payouts. Just like the net benefit we get for living under the defense umbrella of the U.S., Canadian grain farmers have benefited greatly from the U.S. policy decisions on bio fuels. Maybe you would rather they have doubled their farm subsidy levels and left bio fuels alone.Oh yes another problem created by the U.S. decisions. We have raised the price of wheat so high that no one wants to pay us a premium for our high quality wheat. Now maybe we can start talking about stupid policy decisions. We have one stop shopping in Western Canada for Ferrari Wheat. Great when everyone is buying Chevy wheat.

agstar...here is a better idea for you....you need to farm in some islamofacist state where you and your liberal fasicst ideas could meld...

your a bigger fool if you do not think that the current supply issues will not be resolved by increasing production over the next several years....underutilized and inefficent production in Eastern Europe and Eurasia, GMO's transcending more cropping systems worldwide, etc, etc.....

biodiesel from canola made sense at 8 dollar canola and 80 dollar oil, now how about at 120 dollar oil??

fact is that the whole biofuel thing is distruptive for you collectivist's...you that cannot think or act for yourself but need the borg to survive....

How stupid is the American Government you ask? They are carrying out a no-win war far from home. They have allowed the the derivative markets to bankrupt their economy. The U.S. dollar will soon be a fiat currency. If building ethanol plants is just about boosting ag returns , get a life. They have sunk 200 billion into the U.S. financial system to bail out their banks. Yeah they are smart allright. Read my lips ,when voters are starving or can't afford food because of the ethanol industry, what do you think they will do?

          Agstar77,

When consumers need energy, they pay for it... and the price of energy is as much a political determination as anything else.OPEC, US pricing, all are political decisions.

          SO

Why shouldn't folks pay us a fair price for our grain as well?

If the world wants a decent supply of grain... it should pay a fair price for it. NOT A CWB Created PRICE.

And to think you folks are in charge of marketing my grain Agstar77... it gives me the creeps.

I thought the role of the cwb and it's directors was to maximize returns for FARMERS!!! Not to get bent out of shape at the price the poor US consumer might have to pay!

            What gd anti american drivel.

We finally have worldwide grain prices that can make western canadian farmers some money, and you and your brothers complain that the consumers now need our sympathy and protection. Then instead of being glad that grain supplies are being drawn down you spout off how inefficient the system is.

Have you been to a grocery store lately agstar? People are paying $4 -$5 for a loaf of specialty bread! And that shelf is empty. Right next to it are the $1.20 bags, and the shelf is full. What does that tell you? They will pay for it.

It is sickening reading how you seem to have no regard for the well being of any other farmer in this country other than those who welcome the government control of the system. When grain prices go up you complain they are getting too high, when they drop back down, you are happy because everyone else is just greedy and self centered. Then you mock them for being sad to see prices dropping. Unbelievable!

What happened to you to make you so bitter that you would rather see the farm community in the crapper than have it get ahead? Did you get picked on in school by some rich kid? Did daddy not leave you the farm like the neighbor down the road?

                Way to avoid hard questions.

                Ever hear of the Kurds?

You probably think that was an appropriate way to do some crowd control - or somehow george bush's fault.

Where do you think Sadam obtained the Gas? Giving weapons and tech to a fruitloop like Sadam was bound to lead to disaster. So how do you fix your mistake ,Bomb him. Eventually the U.S. will leave . Will Sadam's replacement be any better ,probably not. Whether the U.S. should or should not be in Iraq doesn't matter. the net result is the same ,the U.S. economy can't afford it. Are you telling me their current deficit is good?

Tell me what the voters will do. It would seem that all politicians are on the bio fuels bandwagon. Are you suggesting that they will destroy all the plants so that they will have a cheaper supply of corn for their pork and beef. We have huge energy prices but consumers still buy gas guzzling vehicles. I guess if the bio fuels market isn't right then we should also start attacking the meat industry as a terrible waste of grain. Lets all become vegetarians and ride bicyles. You quote all the dumb things this government has done and the money wasted yet when they do something that actually reduces their support levels to the ag sector and saves the government money you also claim that is stupid. For once American policy has been good for my bottom line. You can argue all you want but I'm planning to run with the cards we were dealt.

like i said earlier agstar.....why don't you and you collectivist borg friends get together with your islamofacist friends in the middle east and try you social economic engineering over there.....i will go hang out with my freedom fighting allies to the south(never mind the fact they are my biggest customers), they are not perfect, for sure, but they represent better my view better than your perspective.......and if you do not like the islamofacists, try Chavez or Castro, i am sure they would have you
