    old crop new crop

    interesting reading below i appreciate
    everyones opinion.

kinda interesting mindset maybe its got
something to with timing of harvest, but
in australia most have sold out of
canola and wheat old crop meaning plus
75% of growers 2012 production is sold
as prices were in top 15% over last 20
yrs and we quickly went on to pricing
2013 wheat and canola being caustious no
    morethan 25% of expected production.

wereas i read below dont worry about
    newcrop concerntrate on old sorry
charlie, but shouldnt it have been done
    by now?

    next pricing opportunity is obviuosly
march april when crop comes out of
dormancy in usa and eu/black sea

re canola rotation is probably king in
australia in preference to price signals
    sometmes wheat and barley exchange
    places rotationaly but pulses and
    oilseeds stay sort of constant.

Just on your comment that most should have done
old crop marketing by now. Western Canada is
different that Australia in terms of the amount of on
farm storage and from there the extra ability to
store/hopefully get paid by the market for carry.
Australia from my understanding and what you have
said over time uses more commercial storage in big
terminals (still can carry unpriced on a storage
ticket/warehouse receipt). Good or bad, lots of guys
are still playing with old crop. I agree that February
to March area will be a key point for a lot of crop
prices with the next key points the North American
spring seeded crop growing season. So the million
question do you lock in today's price (old or new
crop) with delivery in the future or do you make that
decision in 3 to 12 months time at delivery with the
idea you accept either the pain or gain at that time.
