    http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2012/12/21/this-post-is-going-to-be-very-confusing-to-some-people/

The NRA came out with a proposal to post armed police officers at schools to prevent or at least minimize the next school shooting. The left promptly called the idea nuts.

Turns out, it wasn’t a new idea. President Bill Clinton proposed the same idea in April 2000. He implemented it, too, only to see Barack Obama cut the funding for it.

So, if you’re keeping score, the NRA agrees with a 12-year old Bill Clinton position on school security. The left just called a former Democrat president “crazy.”

Let’s get even more confusing. Clinton proposed more security for schools in the wake of the 1999 Columbine shooting. It turns out that Columbine High School did have an armed sheriff’s deputy on the scene the day of its tragic shooting spree. That deputy exchanged fire with one of the killers twice, drawing their attention away from killing unarmed teenagers. The deputy and his backup also helped organize the evacuation of students from the school. Though the deputy’s presence obviously did not stop the attack from happening, it likely did save many lives.

Let’s pile on even more confusion. The NRA today proposed protecting our children to a level similar to the way we protect our banks and many public buildings: With armed security. As we’ve established, this idea has been around for more than 12 years and was once proposed by a Democratic president. Many on the anti-gun left responded to today’s proposal not with a thoughtful rejoinder, but with calls to shoot Wayne LaPierre.

All the NRA has to do, is point a finger
towards Comedia, to show what a FAILURE
      registering guns would be. 3 - 4
      billion dollars later, the registration
system, was a total utter failure.
Except as a make work program fer
      Eastern maritime Comedia, where
      unemployed housewives and grandmas made
an attempt to control, duck hunters and
      framers. Maniacs and criminals won't
register, thats why they are classified
as maniacs and criminals. Amerika is
mired in a problem that they created and
now must endure, cousin theys simply to
many guns scattered all over their great
nation, God help amerika in the future.
The genie is outta the bottle and can't
      be put back in..........

Gotta get rid of the 'gun free zones'.

Who cares if you enact gun control. Crazy guy in the corner will still know where the people are sitting ducks.

Watched one program that showed a Texas school that was 30 miles from a police station. Principal said if there weren't already multiple C/C teachers in that school, a gunman could kill every single person in that place and drive away before the cops could even be seen.

Known criminals aren't the only ones to use guns to kill. Some formerly law abiding citizens pickup guns in domestic disputes, under the influence of alcohol, when threatened, to threaten, and in revenge. Easy access to lots of guns makes it more likely they will be used and more likely there will be fatalities. Many incidents go un-reported. I can think of several incidents in my own community where guns were used to commit a crime. So getting guns out of the hands of known criminals is only part of the solution to reducing gun fatalities.

Ronald Reagan brought in the Brady bill and bans on assault rifles and was opposed by the NRA. There is no right side to be on. The fact is there are too many guns and a culture of solving disputes with guns. Those are the problems that have to be addressed.

Installing security alarm and cameras is the only way to go. An alarm and camera system would alert teachers upon break and entry.

While guns indeed are an issue, protecting society from the boy next door will be better done more money is and energy is spent around the issue of mental health. Which ironically has been predicted to supercede physical health issues in this millenium as a focus energy for society.

How many of us donate to a mental health cause this last year? How many of us have donated to a physical health cause this year?

                Welcome to the new reality.

This debate is reminiscent of past
ones involving selling wheat. The "usual
                      suspects" speaking from their world
                      view.
Good to see BTO and ChuckChuck haven't
                      become schizoid.
Everyone here is judging as a
foreigner about something we can never
fully relate to. This is an American
issue. Their history, laws and culture.
Don't let our ratings hungry left
leaning Canadian media add to the
                      irrational fear in Canada.
                      Points to ponder:
In Canada far far less firearms per
capita. The Civilian M 16 variants are
restricted weapons. Again far less of
                      them, and more regulation involving
                      ownership.
1 phone call from a concerned citizen
                      (disgruntled ex, teacher, anyone
really)and your home can be invaded,
                      property confiscated, jailed and strip
                      searched if 'necessary'.
5 round mags are legal maximum
                      capacity.
                      Question; why isn't this happening
more in Texas than anywhere else? I
don't have any idea myself. However I
have seen some very chic concealed carry
                      purses and handbags for ladies.
And finally, God grant me the
strength; so that when my child who
spends hours and hours doing nothing but
                      violent video games, starts mutilating
himself; I remove all weapons from the
home and get the appropriate help!

US schools are already locked down and employ are far greater degree of entry security than Canada. Cameras, and entry alarms are merely a method to give a reaction time to forcible entry and a security forces.

If you are worried about cameras enforcing security and watching every move stay on the farm.

                          Blackpowder: surely you don't mean
                          "personal responsibility" do you? Some
of these cowards don't even have the
courage to keep themselves alive to face
                          the consequences.

                          Haveapulse: you make an excellent
point. Mental health is no joke and
doesn't get the attention it deserves.
I still say there is something wrong
with the way today's society lives that
encourages it, not that it never existed
                          before, but....

Watched a show on the 12-21-12 Mayan end of the world theory, the suggestion was perhaps not the end of the world, but a changing social order.

Peaceful here today, light snowfall drifting...baking, making ice for the Grandkids pond, lots of snow for the snowpile, we are so fortunate.

We need a return of mental institutions to send mentally ill people for the remainder of their lives. Worked years ago.

But now everybody thinks you can help loonies with talking and drugs. Only works if they take the drugs. Once they stop, they go squirrly real quick.

The fact that children (and adults)see multiple murders in graphic detail every day if they watch television, and that there are dozens of violent video games causes desensitization. It also has a tendancy to normalize violence. North Americans uncritical support of violence in the popular media is the root of the problem. With that exposure it is only a small step over the edge for some..........
