How do you suggest Obama make water to supply the Mississippi? All the praying doesn't get it done, Tom.

Stealing it from one watershed to supply another isn't going to be popular if it puts that section in jeopardy. Robbing Peter to pay Paul, not smart.

Good points, rareearth.

In a fragile economy, I find it arrogant for people to consider striking. They only way they will begin to understand, is for them to go without a paycheque for quite a while.

Maybe the people on the west coast don't understand there are hundreds of thousands of people that would love their job and lifestyle.

Much like the NHL stalemate, its pure arrogance that its doesn't get resolved.

Changing the Mississippi water level is as simple as signing a piece of paper for Obama.

There is huge amounts of water in the Missouri reservoirs. something like a release of 1 or 2 percent of stored water would keep the Mississippi transport working at 9' of draft for the winter season 2013.

"The low water level on the Mississippi River after this year's devastating dry spell was exacerbated by the corps' decision to reduce by even more than usual the amount of water that flows into the waterway from the Missouri River. The corps reduces the Missouri River flow every autumn.

The move raised protests from Midwestern governors and senators who urged President Barack Obama to rescind the decision for fear that badly needed income would be lost through the disruption of commerce that flows through the river.

The river groups met last week with White House staff "and continue to implore them and members of Congress and the Corps to release additional water to sustain navigation on the Mississippi River," the council said.

More water for Mississippi...

(Reuters) — The drought-hit Mississippi River will stay open to commerce a few days longer than expected following the release of water from a lake in southern Illinois, a group of shippers said Friday.

The river, which carries about $7 billion in commodities in December and January, will effectively close near Thebes, Ill., around Jan. 7, according to the latest forecast from the Waterways Council and American Waterways Operators.

The groups on Wednesday had pegged the closure at Jan. 3 or 4.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the second time released water from Carlyle Lake into the river to aid transportation Thursday.

Water levels have fallen to near-record lows because of the worst U.S. drought since 1956.

Canada is so far behind in its infrastucture, by the time the politicians realize its time to do something it will be far too late.

With the major reservoirs at about 85 percent of
normal cap... and the top half of the northern basin
not in drought... [40m ac ft of water in just 3]... one
would not see why a couple of percent water release to
keep commerce going...

I believe Obama has more power than JC.
JC only walked on water and turned it to
wine, he also knew all the good fishing
spots but no mention of filling the
rivers, only Obama can do that.

How Ironic....

Many of the folks who prayed for the rain to STOP in the spring of 2011... are now in a crisis because it is too dry!
