Nominate the best and the worst 4wd!!

Wondering what was the best and what was the
    worst.

Best: 1) JD 7520 cause that's what dad drove (ya
no diff lock get stuck pretty easy) very noisy cab
but I know of one with a blade on it that will be
mine one day....just waiting for the farm sale! 2)
JD 8650 all around solid machine 3) Steiger Lion
cause they looked cool in pictures but sadly I
never drove one. Drove a JD 8970 when they
came out as a demonstrator for a fiew days but
sadly the 8650 never got replaced. Have not
heard great things about the 70 series. Yes I
know very little about anything other than green
so help me out. My brother in law thinks I need a
    Versatile 876??

Worst: 1) JD 8850 cause the motors were not
always the best, yet some still make 8000 hours
    2) IH 3588 never stayed on many farms even new
    3) 8630 JD even would give you a new motor if
    you paid for the install.

Again I grew up working on a JD dealers farm so I
only know green. Nominate your 3 best and worst.

O ya I drove a NH 9680 one fall it seemed ok but
the paint was kind of a funky weird color.

One of the best i think has to be the old 875 versatile,
a real workhorse. versatile and steiger were the first
component tractors i believe( easy and cheap to fix ).
      Worst was 30 series jd.

Also ....drive a Cat challenger 65 pulling a
breaking disc. It had like 1/4 inch of tread left but
still pulled like a champ. 425hp for $30k cheap
solid pulling power with a modest paint job.

That's cheap horsepower! Sure beats buying a new one
of comparable horsepower, for well over 10 times the
          price.

Agree with Stonepicker on the Versatile.
There isn't a lot of flash in those
            tractors but are simple, economical
workhorses. Just because a tractor is
JD green doesn't make it the best, they
did put out some lemons too, or would
that be limes? What JD has done
remarkably well is market their name.
No matter what you drive, they're all
good when they're matched up to the task
            at hand and work well.

I bought Massey Ferguson 4wd tractors 4880 and
4840 they have over 7000 hours and seem to run
              well.
My farm is too small and horribly inefficient to
finance anything that is not 15 yrs old.
Agree Deere has really done well with marketing
the name and color, but I would easily drive Case
              and Versatile over JD anyday.

I agree that caseih are solid 4wd's. I do like the
9180 and 9280's pretty solid power shift.

The cat 65 came from Richie bros and had some
issues that turned people off in a big way....like
the nearly gone tread. The seat that was all bent
up and broken and the a/c didn't work. It cost
6500$ to get the a/c redone. The guy that has it
put a 1/2" thick piece of steel under the motor to
give it a belly pan/stump guard.

JD 4430 with 17000 hours. Was bought new in the
family in 1977. Has had the injection pump done
the quad range shifters and the clutch done . You
could probably feed all of western Canada's cow
herd for one winter with the the bales that tractor
made. Wore out a lot of balers behind it. Piss
poorest small JD ever made a 3130. Spent more on
that piece of shit in 2 years than in the lifetime of
                    the 4430.
Another good tractor was IHC 986. Had one for
many years with a loader. Weak spot was the clutch.
Probably would be running today if it hadn't burnt
in a shop fire a few years ago

We had a John Deere 8440. It was fairly reliable, a bit hard to start. Performance was where it was lacking. No tourqe at all. Rated RMP was 2100, it would lug down to 2000 RMP, any lower than 2000 and you were at 0. After that we had a JD 8570. The clutch went out of it at 1948 hours. Cost us 6000 dollars to get it fixed and 2000 to rent a tractor to seed with. It was off of warrenty but we asked John Deere to help cover a bit of the repair cost seeing as it only had 1948 hours on it. They said we should be happy with 2000 trouble free hours and didn't pay 5 cents toward the cost of the repairs. Then we bought a 9660STS combine and the motor went out of it at 347 hours. I realized Deere was right when they said I should be happy with 2000 trouble free hours! We used to bleed John Deere green but after all of this we have been changing to CaseIH. We now have a 435 quad trac. It pulls like a locomotive and seems to be a reliable tractor.

I started out with versatile, now i have caseih. Never had a major problem with any of them. Just rebearinged the 9280 and did the injectors on it 400 hours ago just because i thaught it was time. Best tracter i ever had. Watch western producer in feb, i might sell it for i baught a newer one.

Does anyone have an opinion on a used 9750 vs
                            9760 deere combines?

We run a 9750, 9760 ,and a 9770 all have treated us well. Cost around 25000 anually to green light all 3. Very little trouble and if there is jd has good service in my opinion.
