Insulin doesn't make you fat Cotton, it
allows absorption of simple sugars in
the blood to be utilized and burned.
Your brain for example needs carbs.
    Without it you die.

People get fat because they need 1500 to
2500 calories roughly a day but they eat
    twice that.

1 gram of fat contains 9 calories. 1
gram of protein and carb each are 4.5
calories. 1 pound of fat is roughly 3500
    calories.

If you walk at a moderate pace you burn
about 250 calories. 15 hours of walking
uses up a pound of fat. See why people
    get discouraged?

85% of weight loss is defined by what
    you eat.

One big Mac, fries and coke is about
1200 calories. What you gonna eat the
rest of the day? Carrots? Nope, a big
supper and probably had sugar coated
cereal, milk eggs and hash browns for
    breaky. 4000 calories at least.

The healthy plate is made up of 50%
carbs, 25% protein, and 25% fat of which
    the majority should be unsaturated.

If you wanna lose weight, take your
weight, multiply by 10 and limit your
calories to that or less. Count your
calories. Exercise daily and raise your
heart rate to 65% of your max heart rate
for at least half an hour a day.

Sound too simple? Apparently. that why
    people make billion$ and billion$
    complicating it.

Make sure you take lots of calcium
Cotton. Drink a lot of water. Eat
unsaturated fats if you're gonna eat a
high fat diet. Try to minimize the
    damage.

I've watched those videos cotton. smooth
salesmen. Just enough big word usage to
sound believable. i'm a long distance
runner. I would die at mile 5 if i
followed this. Not a single real athlete
could EVER follow this diet and live,
    let alone compete.

Ahhhh...minus the million things wrong with what
      you said,i'll stick with one.

How does the fat on the body disappear?

      I'll save you trouble.

Its turned to fuel,to ketones,to be burned, after all the
      carbs have been used.

Insulin turns carbs to fat period, this is a truth not a
      lie,not something can be disputed,like gravity,you
need to accept what you think you know as wrong.

Dr Eric Westman says in one video that muscle cramps and constipation are an issue on low carb. Suggests salt and magnesium supplements.
Asian, East Indian and Chinese people who eat rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner are rarely over weight. Definitely high carb, but more active.
People around the world eat very high carb diets and are thin as a rail. Must be more to it all.

Not for me to judge what Cotton does. If it works
and makes you feel right and healthier go for it.
Here is a bit of my story and i really don't care what
anyone thinks it has worked well for me and is
probably why i can actually function today as a
          healthy happy human being.
Two years ago weighed 280lbs at 6'2" and 58 years
old. I stopped eating all proscessed food and
actually anything pretty well with a label on it Also
no grains or sugars at all. Dropped carb intake to
50 grams per day only carbs were from fresh
vegetables. I have no idea how many calories per
day i eat because i never keep track. I lost 60 lbs in
6 months and then adjusted same quality carb
intake to roughly 100 grams per day and have
          maintained my weight to today.
I also excercise daily but no high stress stuff and
because i enjoy it. Snowshoe 3 miles per day in
winter and bicycle 10 or walk 4 miles per day in
summer. Do not do this to lose weight but rather to
          tone muscles and feel good.
Long story short no more high blood pressure no
more arthritis no more upset stomach and no more
          Rolaids and no more allergies.
if interested google Primal Blueprint the system i
follow and this should interest farm guys google
Shovelglove to see the fitness program i have just
started to follow, no gym no fancy coaches or
equipment etc just a 12 lb hammer. AS cheap and
          effective as you can get.
I am not defending it nor do i give a shit if you
chew me up and spit me out. It works for me and
          works well.
I also dont have to agree or disagree with cotton's
program but i do believe modern medicine and big
food don't tell us everything about the whole carb
and insulin issue because that is the key to healthy
          living.

If you eat less energy then you burn you will lose
weight. Eliminating carbs makes it easy to lower
your caloric intake because it is soooo easy to
              over consume carbs.

Question is cotton, how will you eat after you have
              lost the weight?

What about alcohol? what is the most nutritous alcohol to consume? I would think wine made from some form of berries.

Dark red wine has the most anti oxidants.
Reservatrol I think is the chemical.
                  Cheers, Hopper!
Alcohol is high in calories, however beer is high in nutrients. Cheers again!

Been there, done that, nine years ago with the
weight loss. 44 lbs. in 100 days. When I
started in this mission I read an article that
caught my eye. It said our body was meant to
be worked and exercised daily, and the lack
of, is the biggest cause of weight gain. So I
did, I lost weight the natural way, by making
sure my body was worked. Three hours of
dedication a day, seeding, harvest and all.
Roughly six miles a day of walking, running. In
todays progressive world we have eliminated
alot of labour intensive work(thank god), but
our bodies have suffered. My eating habits
stayed the same except for a small cutback on
junk food. As this is a farming forum just
think how our hopper bins and round balers,
just those two alone have added to elimination
of calorie burning. Don't fool yourself, farming
100 quarters with todays equipment, calorie
burning is almost eliminated. Bottom line, if
you do not work the body naturally, then other
not quit so healthy ways of losing weight can
be used. By the way I am now gaining alot of
my weight back. I once again am slowly
getting lazy in working my body. Happy New
                    Years to all.

A very interesting and informative thread. One that I can relate to. Back in the fall. I got tired of not being able o bend down to do my boots up.

So I followed the same kind of eating regimen the Cott and AllisWD45 are talking about. Cut out the carbs, increase the raw fruits, eat more vegetables, becoming conscious of eating more healthy stuff.

This means not having that donut/burger/indulgence when going to town or saying no to the cookie jar in the kitchen. Seldom have those English muffins for breakfast any more, more yogurt and bran topped with blueberries, instead, etc.

Lots of cinnamon on whatever food it complements, i.e. - the above mentioned breakfast, soups, because cinnamon speeds up metabolism and burns calories. And I really like what it does to spicing up flavors. It also had anti-inflammatory properties and helps reduce arthritic pain.

At the same time, tried to boost the activity level just a bit more than usual and guess what - down 15 pounds in 2 months.

The challenge is, as WD9 mentioned, to maintain a healthy eating pattern. Christmas in a tough time to maintain weight loss and I gained back a bit after 3 weeks of multiple dinners.

But it's a matter of changing how I look at eating. As my BIL said of his incredible weight loss over the past 2 years "I eat to live, instead of living to eat."

So I now see it as a permanent commitment to staying within an acceptable range of food choices, not that I can never have any pie and ice cream , just be smart about it and understand why I got into the sorry shape that I was in before.

And it's nice to be able to pick something up off the ground again with much less grunting.

Congratulations Cott and Allis! Stay at it! We are the losers that are winners! Hahaha!

Cotton good on you, I m on the same program.
Down 24 lbs since started. It's fun. Beer was
tough but the Christmas snacking was a bitch.
Attempting to get to 35 down. Boy do you have
                        energy.

It appears that farm managers have not only
embraced technology with a vengeance, but are
also adopting fitness and wellness as an integral
                              part of a manager's lifestyle.

And those two factors, being geeky and a foodie,
lol, along with your many skills, will provide the
                              basis for success.

A body is healthy because you service it properly.

I actually noted the overall fitness level of the
                              farmers attending Kindersley's Market Freedom
Day, and it was high in comparison to school
                              classes.

Perhaps a good resolution would be to make
sure the next generation of farmers are not not
oerweight. Eyeball your children this morning.
And get your family onboard to make the
necessary changes to the family's lifestyle. Pars

High Protein diet and this ketosis BS diets are dangerous. Make sure you have a real doctor backing up your weight lose. A high protein diet in itself can really screw up you kidneys. A good weight loss program would never have you lose more than about 2 lbs a week. Fast diets generally don't last and those pounds are quickly regained.
