    crop production Week show????

We could not make it this year.

What did they have to say at pulse days about
the pulse markets, Canola day Canola Market
    Canary seed days Market????

    #2
I had a friend attend the canary seed meeting.
Sounds like Mexico had warned CFIA about dirty
canary shipments. He did not quite figure out if
CFIA did nothing about it, or that the processors
ignored the warnings and just kept shipping out of
spec product. Ultimately Mexico got tired of
incorrect product and slammed the door shut on
    Canada.
It's a pretty weak description, but I would like to
know who was really responsible for pissing off
the Mexico buyers. It takes a lot of incompetence
to annoy a Mexican! The truth is in there
    somewhere.

Piss poor job of getting Crop Production Meeting info out.

We all learn just about as much as what is happening at open RM council meetings.

To be expected??? Maybe no sense trying to follow as noone cares????

Well i guess all the speakers should show up on your door step so they can give you their presentations oneoff. Give me a break!

I was in the flax, pulse and mustard meetings. All the presenters did a fabulous job. The presentations were some of the most well executed and informative sessions ive heard in a while. A fine job was done by all.

Long and short, Larry thinks flax carryout at the end of this year will be lower than forcast, mainly because stats can is working with to large of acerage from last year. 2013 forcast of 1.1 million acres, but basically he doesn't see a huge drop in prices from todays levels. 2 of the 4 weather services larry follows are call for a all out North American drought next year. If that happens $15 flax is certainly in the cards. We will see.
Lots of discussion around trying to get the system cleaned completely out of flax. Flax council wants everyone to buy new seed for seeding in 2014 to try and get this trifide issue to a minimum. Larry made a good point about how we should be focusing on increasing the value added market here(ie. flax crushing in North America)and not worring so much about shipping to Europe. I totally agree with his points, but do feel that getting the European market back on board can't hurt either.

Pulse Presentation, long and short need to get lentil acerage down to reasonable level. (sub 2 million acres) until we start to see some changes on prices. Peas, ukraine, kaz, russia are going to contiune to become larger suppliers in this market. Demand from China looks very positive in the future. Globally the acres will certainly be there to signifanlty increase supply. But as we learned this year acres don't always equate to larger supply.

            Dave,
I would appreciate some accuracy. I noticed my
            post was more like gossip.

I was upon Monday, caugh all of the winter
cereals meeting, bits of Canary, and Pulse AGM.
Then went to show at prarieland on Tues.

Winter cereals had a really interesting guy from
Germany a seed developing company SWS???
Fouth largest cereal breeder in the world. They
had a hybrid rye that would out yield anything
over here by 24% winter hardy-ness an issue.
New perennial cereals breeder in Lethbridge.

Canary seed is an interesting crop. Really look
forward to Dave's write up! Someday will be
acase study in dealing with import markets. Still
              evolving if I remember correctly.
Good presentation from a lady who processes
food and what 0 means to food makers. Talked of
gluten free and what the standards and practices
              are to get there.
Went to SPG AGM. No fireworks. Some
resolutions from the floor about governance,
              some passed some didn't.
What struck me was low participation in director
elections 16000 ballots went out 1500 returned.

What does it take to get participation? They had
32000 votes on favourite lentil recipe.

All in all a good show got to see lots of friends and
colleges. It's worth a couple days away from the
              farm to better yourself.

2013 will have something new at TCU place.
              Called crop-sphere. Canola-Pulse-Flax are all
having a common show downtown sounds like the
              Edmonton Farm Tech.
              Others still at PrarieLand.

Will start a new thread on farmer participation in
              choosing directors.

Six hours driving one way(or much much more) in the middle of winter; on treacherous roads is insane; and asking more than is reasonable.

There are additional ways to allow people to "attend" in this day and age. And when those methods are suggested they are ignored.

I could suggest some of the reasons why; but that would only invite personal attacks. So someone else just say why it can't be done other than getting relatively piss poor turnout for elections and even poorer attendance at any meeting.

The Mexican birds just fly over the border into
                  Texas to eat everyday.

In this day and age, if they can set it up to have a live feed from the saskatoon inn to the exhibition grounds for more participation they could send it over the internet.

I for one would gladly pay a fee to participate from home.

The shows and booths seem very repetitive year to year. My alzhiemers hasn't made me feel like its all new every year yet.

That and unless you have an older guy beside you, they don't take you seriously about dealing.
