    Durum Grade Tolerances

    Change in sprouted tolerances

    Severely sprouted:
    #1CWAD- from .1% to .2%
    #2CWAD- from .2% to .4%

    Combined total of sprouted
    and severely sproutedunchanged)
    #1CWAD- .5%
    #2CWAD- 2%

    #3CWAD- can't have >3% severly sprouted
    or >7% total sprouted

Could someone take my blinders off and
show me how the changes to the top two
grades will make any difference to us.
If conditions are bad enough for
sprouting let alone severe sprouting to
occur, won't the infamous color grading
    factor(and others) be compromised as
well? So does it really matter? In
fact the "new" tolerances for severe
sprouts in a 3 will make it even tougher
    to get a three.

    From the CGC site:
Canadian Grain Commission research showed that the tolerances for severely sprouted could be relaxed in No. 1 and No. 2 durum without affecting end-use quality. As well, research showed that a severely sprouted tolerance should be added to No. 3 durum and the tolerance for total damage in No. 3 durum should be tightened to maintain quality integrity. These changes would have minimal effect on producer deliveries as most deliveries of No. 3 Canada Western Amber Durum are already within the recommended tolerance.
