Ok we got another Dump of Snow! How is land rent with flooding in 2013!

Ok the regina and east area got hit with wind and lots of snow again last night.
Wondering if you have a Idiot who bought high valued land and now wants 80 to 100 rent. Is it 16000 for full quarter or 10000 for 100 acres. Because as wet as we were last year all this snow will put most farms back to where they were last summer.
Again the high rent doesnt make sence buy hey were just stupid uneducated farmers. This is a new way to finance farms.
    Kevin Hursh must be right.

I realize all you renters would like to get your 60 bu of canola and have the land ownre pay for the fert and seed but realy there must be a compromise somewhere
Like mabey crop shsres but then you wouldnt get the windfall profits when all the stars line up.

The dump of snow we got was just alot of powder. The ground here will suck that back easily when the frost comes out.

supposed to snow. You guys in sask are
just starting to learn what it like in
          Alberta for rented lan...
          Never mind.
If it wasn't snowing it would be a
          drought blah blah blah.

Land prices and rents will keep escalating
till the bankruptcies start. Who is first
will likely be a surprise. Would have
been nice if Wigmore was sold by public
auction. Then the investors could head
            back to the city.

Sure hope Rafferty is open and draining this
time. The amount of flood damage to Roche
Percee and Estevan in 2011 was a shame.
Makes you wonder who is getting paid the big
bucks to be an expert on run- off prediction.

The 2011 flood was not caused by only snow melt. No one could have forecast a 6 inch rain in June covering much of the Souris watershed. I guess that's why they called it a flood. Hindsight is 20 20.

To the Alberta comment Yea maybe on irrigate land in Southern Alberta rent was higher but at 100 were insane.
New talk in our area is someone needs alot of trucks with flatdeck tailers to move some equipment.
                  Hm liquidationsale!
I think its all talk but who knows.

All these high prices for farmland....... Its not based the value of the crops it can produce, but on the speculative value of what might be UNDER the ground. Potash, gas, oil, diamonds, etc etc. Thats whats driving these prices up. The people that are buying it have money to burn on farmland because of money they made somewhere else.

How is whats under driving the price higher. Very few farms in Saskatchewan have mineral rights.
We have only 14 out of the 40.

Saskfarmer: $100 on dryland is not out of line in Alberta. A very popular rent option here is 20 bu/bly....no matter what you grow on it. Sold feed barley last week for $5.25/bu to the local hog barn.
We can't grow crops like lentils or flax here...to short of a growing season....so are limited to wheat, canola, barley, peas, etc. Maybe your rents should be even higher than ours?

A question about mineral rights in Saskatchewan: Do the mineral rights go with the land or can they be retained by the previous owner?
In Alberta no one sells the mineral rights with the land.

Most that own them and farm keep them if they sell out.
Some times its negotiable in land deal. Some times its thrown in.
But very few people own the mineral rights.
