Our PM travels all over the frickin world drumming up trade but not looking after our own affairs. Then he plays coy with the so-called 1'st Nations and acts like a goddamned hermit and won't meet and then he will meet and then he won't meet and then he will. And when they do meet NOTHING comes out of it anyway.

Then our SCC makes a half million more metis citizens into SUPER-CITIZENS with more privileges and most likely more compensation from the government. Its enough to make one gag every time the word government is mentioned. Useless bloody teats ALL.

two! Enlighten me on what Chretien/Trudeau
tried to do in '69? What was their
initiative and what happened to it?

In 1968 Chretien and Trudeau came up with a plan to dismantle the entire Indian Reserve system. I'm not sure what the specifics are of what they intended would replace it, but it was likely along the lines of turning reserves into something like municipalities with similar taxation and regulatory authority. I think that the Department of Indian Affairs would have ceased to exist. Needless to say, the idea went nowhere probably due to the objections of the soon-to-be unemployed people in the DIA. It was one of the few decent ideas PET ever had. Too bad it was not implemented.

The main objections to the Trudeau/Chretien plan came from various Native leaders of the day, who objected to allowing private land ownership on reserves (oh, the horror!) and who went on to claim that private land ownership would only increase poverty. Well, the end result was that the Soviet model of governance remained intact on Indian reserves, with poverty getting progressively worse ever since. The Native leadership of the time blew it back then, and too many seem intent on blowing it again this time around.

personally I envisioned 20 agrivationvillers holding 20 shotguns to his head and pulling the trigger in the first quarter of that last video. And he talks about the first nations free speech as being illegal and wrong. Just think this guy needs to shut up for a while.
