For some reason when I see a Burbert post, my eyes glaze over and I think of this clip...

Could sure use some global warming in
Scottsdale, coldest it's been in 20years. Long
term weather patterns. They've always been here.

What happened to all these hungry mouths
we farmers are obligated to feed? NA is
still a fifth of the world trade of
          wheat, never mind domestic consumption.
We are still the most political stable
and consistent producing areas of the
world. If the idle no more folks had
their way and we gave the north american
plains back to the Indians so they could
let it go back to native prairie for
buffalo beards to return the world would
be a pretty hungry place. So forgive me
if I don't buy it that we just don't
          matter anymore.

You are right in that North American represents anywhere from 30 to 40 % of world wheat trade. That is down from about 60 to 70 % in the 1970's. Much of the drop has been supplemented (depending on the year) by the FSU countries with their share about 20 %.

Canadian wheat exports are actually moving along a good pace. US exports are slow. As malleefarmer indicated, India has been the wild card this year. FSU countries moved wheat early to avoid the potential shut down of exports because of their production problems.

One of our problems is western Canada still produces Cadillac quality wheat in a world that wants (or perhaps more accurately is willing to pay for) Cavalier/Impala quality. Western Canada also lives in one of the highest transportation cost to market areas of the world starting with a trip across the mountains, through the St. Lawrence or via Churchill.

According to the provocative W5 story on the highway murder-suicide shooting last year (near Lethbridge), shooter Derek Jensen was on antidepressant drugs (mentioned at about 45 minutes into the 1 hour W5 program).

Considering the information in the above link, why is this association with these drugs not being discussed in the media?

In 2004, the FDA was forced, by evidence, to put a "black-box warning label" on these antidepressants (like Prozac), telling of the increased risk of suicidal thoughts, etc,... when people under 25 years take these drugs.
              example of Prozac label:
              http://betterbrainsonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Prozac-black-box1.jpg

If these shooters/suicide victims had been taking 'street drugs' like speed or cocaine, we'd hear about it... but not when they are taking a prescribed pharmaceutical SSRI type drug.

              For more examples, check out:

The drugs mask the problems, better in my thoughts, for people to seek therapy which is based on talking through the problems, instead of drugs to numb the brain.

(personal stories of people affected by the terrible side-effects, and conflict of interests exposed).
