Pull titles on these purchases and you will learn
its our Canadian banks that are borrowing on
    these deals.
Hey I always said if you want to come here and
frm great become part of our province. But if you
living in Vancouver and think we're going to work
    for you better rethink that.

Just a wild thought to throw out there.... how about
instead of not being able to purchase until you've been
a citizen for 10 years, you can buy as much as you
want but you can't SELL it for that 10 years? So
anybody can invest in the land so long as they're in it
for the medium-long term intending to a) farm it or b)
have it farmed rather than just hoping to flip it.

A vote on selling farmland? Sure let's let
landowners each vote everyday. If they vote yes
they can sell- no and they don't sell. If they say no
today maybe they can change their vote if the
offer goes up tomorrow. Farmland is in a bubble
instead of getting so worked up invest in
something else in the mean time. In a couple of
years investors will find out that overpaying for
land means they will never get above the cost of
capital and move on (sell) which will depress the
price for your kids to buy again. Are we not all
capitalists? I get tired of so called capitalists who
when the market moves against them there first
instinct is to bring the government in to "make
        things fair"

Runoff I've said that property in Hawaii or Florida
or Phoenix is way better deal than Saskatchewan
          farm land for three years.

I'm of the boomer generation and I can't defend what we have left for your's. Take the torch young friend. You've got to stand for something or you will fall for anything. Our fathers fell for modernity and we fell for the Beatles.

A bunch of sour g****s do-gooders claiming they
should be able to tell land owners who they sell
there own property to look a lot more communist
                than even the Chinese.
Are people selling out to the Chinese because
they have a gun to their head? No actually it's
because the Chinese offer more money than you
do. If you aren't communist yourself Phoenix then
why don't you respect the right of the indavidual
land owner to decide for themselves who they will
                sell to.

And they said communism would never work.
                  Ha!

Fund companies have bought 64,000 acres
in the last 5 years in sask/ab.

Through my whole farming career I have always preached to anyone that would listen and some that wouldn't that socialism is a stupid idea that won't work. Well I stand to be corrected apparently it does work in China, we may not like the way they do business but you have to admit they are successful. I recall once about twenty five years ago at a rural municipal convention a very heated debate over the buying of large tracts of land by the hutterites and how it was ruining the small communities well after further investigation the two coucillors who were spearheading the fight against hutterites individually farmed as much as a hutterite colony. I wasn't that impressed. Am putting on my bullet proof vest because I am almost positive I will need it.

Rhoff had we not had the land regulations in place
pre 2003, you,me and countless other producers
may not have the acres needed to make a living
farming or having the required equity to retire
because the Chinese and investment funds would
have had this province bought up long ago, and
no I'm not commy voted right of centre all my life
and this is my 30th ur in the oilfield we all vote the
                      right way!

The Chinese buying land is a global thing. Just so happens Sask came out of it's shell as far as oil and out of province land ownership to take advantage of bringing investment money into the province. Money brings people People bring money. Alot better than people taking money they earned in Sask and spending it in Arizona..

There are more millionaires in China than in the US. That doesn't sound like Communism (socialism without democracy). I think China saw what happened to the USSR and realized that they better open up their world to entrepreneurship which is what they did. They used capitalism for wealth creation but kept control of their rights. Something tells me that in due time, people that have more wealth will also want more freedom and start questioning their lack of democracy...All hell will break loose then.

Don't forget choice that there are 1.3 billion in
china vs 340 million in the u.s. the fact that they
have millionaires over there is an example of
corruption and a few having power over many I
think their stance on human rights issues proves
this, don't really want that mentality on my back
doorstep, don't care how much friggin money they
                            have
