Cranston grain, Trevor Schulz, screws farmers

Normally I post stuff to inspire discussion being
the village idiot, but this one is different. But only
    for this topic of course!

Cranston grain owned by Trevor Schulz cannot
pay, or maybe more accurately will not pay,
farmers who delivered grain from about end
October to early mid December. Many have been
paid no money and a few just a little bit while he
pocketed hundreds of thousands of dollars. Since
he was not bonded, and corp has no assets,
    farmers will get nothing.

This should be a wake up call once again to all
farmers to no longer take for granted you will just
be payed but rather take steps either thru
insurance or in trust at a lawyers.

Not afraid to say I got ****ed by this jerk and it is
changing the way I sell grain. If that helps others
to change, then awesome. From the talk I hear,
this problem is just tip of the iceberg.

    Thoughts?

And they were dumb enough to deliver to an unbonded buyer? Welcome to the open market.

That's just wrong. I don't want to say this where
its taken out of context. Break a leg, and good
      luck.

Broker sold to Cranston who sold to feed lot is
how it was done. Most feedlots etc are not
          bonded.

There is no way to determine if a company if so
far extended beyond bond. That is no guarantee
          either you will be paid.

Unless the cwb would have become a giant bonded
            brokerage company.....nevermind..........

              cotton

You do realize that this country needs guys like you in politics to kick the lazy ass ****s that are on the take out of there and set up proper marketing.

Your idea was visionary, too bad guys that want to set up commissions don't ask your advice, instead of setting up check-offs.

Speaking of idiots. Isn't there some shit head who
rants to farmers about doing credit checks and
taking accounts recievable insurances on new
                and existing buyers?

The last time I contributed (rather lengthy)
marketing insight, I was told to go ****
                myself!....nice.
People get what they deserve. I mean that both
                in success and.....not success.
Farmers are so smart and wealthy they dont take
                free advice!
FYI.... I got paid. All of it....on time. I said thank
                you.

WD9 i genuinely feel bad for your deal. I cant
help because i dont know how to deal with
these kinds of matters after the fact. I
                  appreciate the warning.

wd9: Did Cranston Grain get paid by the
feedlot who in turn refused to pay you or
did the feed lot pay Cranston and they
still refused to pay you? Either way,
                    send in the "Inglorious Basterds"!!

There isn't much you can do after the
fact. This was a 30k deal for me,
seemingly not a large amount, won't go
broke. Just have to watch every amount
going forward, even a load. Others had
less, others had much more hurt.

Cranston Grain was told by the CGC that
he did not need to be bonded. Had a
strong reputation for seven years, no
BBB complaints, always paid the bills.
                      Everything in the right place.

The worst is guys who had cheques
deferred. That sucks as they found out
Dec 24th. Nice Xmas present, not!

We need paypal (or something like it)
for grain. Given the price of grain
today even a load of barley is a good
                      chunk of money.

Sounds like fraud then. Even if they try to bank,
                          hide, bury or run.

Holy shit, I should proof read my
posts.... didn't make sense, said the
same thing. The 30 grand would go a long
way in making a yearly payment on one of
my major pieces of equipment, to me it is
                            substantial.

                              WD9,

Shelly at Market Master LTD was telling us about a
'Producer Security Program' PSP that is just being put
in place under the revisions to the CG Act.

                              1. It will be 90 percent coverage;

                              2. Cost will be about .005 percent ($50/10,000)

                              3. An approved list of buyers are being screened as we
speak... which Market Master will be an Agent for
selling to, so you can buy the insurance from Market
Master... and the Insurance Co's will have a policy you
WD9 will buy from Market Master. I understand your
name will be on the face of the contract... and the
grain buyer being the insured... Market Master being
the Agent selling the PSP somewhat like buying hail
                              insurance from a local rep.

                              4. If the normal 3 weeks or so go buy.. and payment is
not forthcoming... after refusal to pay... then the
insurance Co's like EDC go after the grain buyer.... if
still no payment... then 90 percent is paid by the PSP
                              to WD9.

                              5. About 6 big insurers like EDC will be backing the
PSP program... which means it is secure.

                              6. Each load can be insured individually.

                              7. Proper paper work will be required... for the PSP to
                              be in effect.

I truly hope this will help growers to assess risk and be
                              secure.

We learn through the school of hard knocks... we took
our medicine on our farm... as well. I look forward to
this innovative change the new CG Act will provide.

                              Cheers
