Bucket you have a fairly sizable operation do you not? Do you not already pay wages to other workers? The others are correct your going to some day get a large fine for paying cash, these auditors are getting smarter for some reason I get audited once every 4 years usually only tiny corrections needed. A slug of 6 paychecks and the RG payment can be done in less than half an hour. I found a pretty good man last year for harvest and I bonused him up to 35 dollars per hour. His work effort did improve the next year he was back as he did not expect such a bonus. This last year bonused him up to 40 dollars per hour straight wage with the proper deductions. Must remember my helper is putting in a lot of overtime and some long days. He likes the work. He can do repairs knows a bit of everything but no class one so I do the trucking I kinda like to take care of the grain. He works when it is time, shows up flawlessly in the morning and does not take off in a hurry when done as we discuss when to start the next day. And we work well together. I will have him for 8 months minimum this year, then may have to be creative to keep him on not sure what to do yet. Hiring some of these young guys these days is an entirely different story I must admit. You don't want to give them too much, just enough to keep them coming back or if you think you can just easily find another man for that grain cart every year then go with the cheap wage if it works. Paying 40 for my guy is not too much.
