There shouldn't be politics in science. Truer
words...science is supposed to be about the
pursuit of truth and knowledge. Maybe this is all
stemming from the problem of increasing political
bias of the scientific community in skewing the
search for and reporting of truth?  Why else do we
see events like "climategate" where  scientists
conspire to change, ignore and hide data which
    contradicts their own "desired" conclusions?

Perhaps getting reporters on side is merely just a
handy way to try to exploit politicians into
    supporting spending policies which guarantee
    future grant money.

You are correct, FarmRanger, it's all about the
money. Grunts out in the farm community, on
the payroll, are paid to stifle any discussion that
threatens any penny of an Entitled's profit, any
      potential profit, any public-welfare corp-funding,
      or any checkoff funding.

They often snarl and smell bad. Pars

Anyone who thinks climate change is a "fairy tale" has just come out of a 15 year coma.
Just goes to show you how scientists HAVE been muzzled when idiotic statements like that are made.

Intelligent conservatives are an endangered species. lol

Science is not always objective or free from political or commercial influence. But when the majority of evidence from a wide variety of sources comes up with similar results then you can be fairly certain the results are reliable. That is why it is important that the results from taxpayer funded science should be freely available and scientists should not be scared to discuss their results in public.

For example weed scientist have been warning for years that herbicide resistance is a growing problem. Against the advice of experts, seed and chemical companies decided that the solution is stacking multiple herbicide resistance genes. This will speed up the selection process for multiple resistance so that farmers will lose herbicide options sooner. Monsanto knows this as well but the solution of integrated weed management using many methods including non-chemical methods does not sell more product, so Monsanto uses their science to sell more product.

Chuck. There IS evidence that stacking
rather than alternation is best for
delaying resistance. I've seen the data.

Musty, If you can name the most abundant
green house gas in the atmosphere I may
take you a little more seriously, until
then let's keep the slandering to a
                minimum.

It also just goes to show that in politics it rarely
about discovering what's true or real. Any means
necessary in every available media to get your
team into power.  It's most unfortunate that so
much politics today is being peddled as science.
There's no need to email other scientists on how
to cover up data if there's an honest pursuit of
                    scientific fact.
I was taught that science is about discovering,
not spinning the truth, but politicos badger,
ridicule and try to assassinate the character of
anyone who dares to challenge a "scientific
consensus".  How does an opinion poll of people
with a vested interest in the outcome of a
scientific theory replace the observation and
interpretation of how well data fits a theory??

Massaging data and character assassination isn't
science, it's politics, and it's hard to tell who are
the scientists and who are the politicians.

Sit up and pay attention farmers, there is a sane
voice in agriculture. Write "FarmRanger" in your
                      notes. Rememberit! pars
