I know they'll never compete with a regular farmer
and i think they know that.

The real fear that is materializing in farming as well
as other commodity producers is the sky rocketing
costs of production which is compressing margins,i'm
    sure we can all relate.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Not really disagreeing with what you guys think, just
giving an opinion on those corporates mind set.

Nobody wants them to fall flat on their face more
    than i.

I thinkLarry Ruud is on the board of directors. I think he is also on the board of directors for Viterra/Glencore.He stepped away from MNP in 2009. That is some solid integration. The best of all worlds. The brightest minds in agriculture doing the math on inputs, sales, and agstability AND other peoples money. It has got to work. They just have to farm more. Small margins on large acres. The pattern here is WalMart farmers. Large acres, large volumes, and when there are small margins they still make a comfortable living. If 10,000 acres doesnt do it, then go to 15,000. $10.00/acre times 15,000 acres is $150,000. That should cover the new house payment and a few trips to somwehere warm.

I overlooked something already stated. It really depends on how many "managers" are bellied up to the trough.
It really would not be such a bad gig. Use city people's investment money,to "manage" vast acres of farmland on the prairies. It sounds very romantic and dutiful. I dont think there is much wrong with that. When things go wrong and investors lose money, you blame the weather because its the truth. The investors pull out, but in the meantime the managers have collected some good salaries for a few years. No harm, nature is to blame. Happily ever after...the end!

Weather will not be the only thing... watch the wheat market over the next 18 months. These corperate farms also can not grow pulses - no time for that stuff ...lol
