In the 30's, there were trains filled with young,
    non-violent hungry unemployed men. This
decade, the cities are already full of violent G20,
Idle No More and Leftist haters who have never
worked, and are not prepared to work. Pars

Pars, you'd better give a closer read to the history
books. BTW, have you stocked up on dried foods as
well? And lot's of warm clothes? And batteries,
lanterns, matches, rope, etc, etc. Oh yeah - lot's of
      wine...

I'm a well prepared woman, Rocky. Nothing lost if
the economy booms. Would like to be a neighbor
of freewhat though and milk his cows in return for
        farm cream. #negotiate

Mrs. Parsley, old school folks are so few
and far between, and we have no neighbors
with our mindset which can be frustrating
at times. We could use a few neighbors who
          "get" us!

We eat three times a day and sleep for eight A
laden table and a comfortable bed are the two
most important material necessities. Simplicity at
it's finest. And I do have a penchant for farm
            cream. #scarce

Friend of mine always tells me " Only people that
worry in times like this are the people with
money, for they have the most to lose."

liquidity, to have cash readya if the shize should
hit the fan. How do you feel GIC's will protect
                  your capaital?

                          Sumguy,

Feelin that we are in for a severe correction in the
markets, had a pretty decent gain in the last 18
mos and by transferring into gic's at least one can
                          protect the principle.

The problem with GIC's is that they don't really protect your principal. The true inflation rate is around 8%, not 1%, so if you have money in GIC's your principal is shrinking at a rate of around 7% a year. If you have a very solid idea of when a crash is coming, it pays to stick to GIC's for short periods of time. But if you stick to that strategy for years, then it can get costly.

lot of comments on this thread are referring to
anarchy and the end of the planet, not thinking it's
that serious but we could see another 30-40 %
correction in equities and people will lose once
                              again
