    All the snow in Regina.....

Is in my inlaws yard. Went down south to
Regina today, and have heard all winter
how much snow they have down there. I
kept waiting, and waiting to come into
this big snow area. Got to Regina, and
realize what they think is a lot of snow
is mostly from wind blowing it places.

Sure, there are big drifts in yards and
stuff, but the fields have stubble
poking. Here I thought it was a big
deal!! Oh well. When all the snow for 47
miles blows into an obstruction like a
yardsite, it looks like an impressive
    amount.

Just not what I was expecting is all...

    Cheers.

I agree 100 % Freewheat. I have also said that
when an area is full of houses the snow that
does fall blows off of all the roofs around the
houses and on to the streets. Big difference
from out in the open country. Some things only
    a farmer can figure out!!

The world operates on similar simplified truths that are either dead wrong; or simply fluff.
Our leaders and their experts pull their pants on one leg at a time and are fully capable of putting the wrong sock on the wrong foot every day of their lives.
With some exceptions;and no long term plan; it is just a matter of doing things three times and hoping it turns out satisfactory once in a while.
And yes, last night a council averted one of the most intrusive possibilities imaginable. And everyone (including council members were relieved at how easy it was to do the right thing). But since there was only a handful of concerned citizens involved; I'm just not sure there is any obligation to share with anyone but another few handfuls of individuals; what the province wide problem is.

I will say I relearned an important lesson. No sense lecturing; because people are only receptive to that which confirms what they already know. However, pointed questions that require a yes or no answer will stun those who have not contemplated those scenarios. The stage is then ripe to enshrine what is professed to be be intent of the legislation. Thats exactly what happened......and guess what EVERYONE GOES AWAY THINKING IT WAS A GOOD EVENING AND THEY HAVE WON SOMETHING.

What I will say is that the rest of you who will face that same bylaw template; drafted by someone who has attached "OTHER USES" without any known or defined or comtemplated other uses; could and will let slip it by 99.9% of ratepayers and council members.

The good news is that there is also an actual ammended bylaw in place that I would recommend be plagiarized to your hearts content. It will save untold potential conflict and problems for all concerned; at all vof governments and their control and enforcement agencies.

I refer you to those officials whom did make the right decision. They should be proud (in that one bylaw case) to explain why they had no problem making the required ammendments.

Now if next bylaw arises from needs within a local jurisdiction; and there are real opportunities for public input (before the deadline for approval) then we would have turned the corner to more than a handful showing some interest in their public business. There is no indication that is happening....it apparently hasn't yet sunk in. Whethe that ever happens lies on the heads of everyone.....all as it is intended to be

Upon reflection; I now realize that councils are but a relection of the electorate. AND THUS IT IS NO WONDER THAT THEY ACT NO DIFFERENTLY: AND THINK NO MORE DEEPLY THAN THE POOL FROM WHICH THEY ARE DRAWN. Our representatives do not automatically become leaders. They either were already leaders, develop into leaders or remain a reflection of the lot from which they are drawn.
A debate on that point will depend on more than the outcome of a single "Sand and Gravel Extraction" bylaw; with topsoil removal (and topsoil removal operations)regulation clearly pertaining to the associated Sand and Gravel pits.
But it was a good small step; and remains to be seen what if anything was learned.

Hopefully no one is ignorant enough to say they can't see the point and that there isn't any question. You're adults and it doesn't work to put everthing on your plates for you to toss it on the floor like two year olds do before they hopefully grow up a little.

Oneoff go get help, you are obviously need it.

Regina does have a lot of snow. Much more than we have in the North
East, you might even say they have had a record amount this year.

Oneoff must be a lawyer. It takes him a
thousand words to say what a regular
            person does in a paragraph.

            I call it word masturbation.

Here on the farm. Yes there is maybe a foot and a half of snow but the ground under it is so dry. People forget so easily Winter wheat never even germinated last fall we have no significate rain since july 11 . Canola only made it through on subsurface moisture. All the sloughs are dry and now most dugouts are the same. The ground 3 feet down is bone dry.Well water table has even dropped. Manitoba government are paranoid about save winnipeg at all costs. I bet if there is no rain events we will be looking for moisture in a month.

5 inches of rain before feeeze up, wow that doesnt sound good unless you are on sand.

We were bone dry at freeze up, won't much runoff here if any. Just need some warmth to melt snow and we will be rolling.

It is evident that a lot of people need help.

First step is to know what is going on. As a test; how about the smart bastards repeating back what you gleaned from a post.

That should draw the usual silence from those who ignore everything that does not confirm what they already think they know for sure.

Please change that reference to "smart bastards" to "smug bastards".

Sorry to have offended any who fall into the former category.
