Phone Discount Seeds in Waterton South
Dakota. Sold some rye last year through a few
brokers, and found out from the truckers it was
all going to Dicount Seeds in Waterton. We have
been growing rye on and off for the last 40
years, and you never know what the hell is going
to happen with the price. About 5 years ago, we
thought we did good when it hit 8 bucks, only to
get offered 10.00/bu F.O.B. A lot depends on
your falling numbers, which you will be asked for
all the time with rye. In my experiance in growing
both winter wheat and fall rye, I would give the
advantage to rye. Only problem with rye, is it
becomes a weed in later years, as you get a lot
      of voluntary growth.

I think holding until July will being a premium.
That was my two cents worth. He can afford to
        hold it
Just curious to see what AV rye growers would
do; lots of sound thinkers on this site, and
        experience counts a lot.

        Thanks for input. Pars

          Parsley,
Personally I would sell now. I am the kind of
person who always likes to sell for profit. And
always like turning grain into cash.
If your friiend is going to hold out, I would
          followup with Koldkanucks lead. Start.talking
with that company see which rail line services
them, get the official name of the us delivery
siding. In the future, if you make a sale in the
future, you have that piece of information for
          the railcar order form.
I would suggest their customs broker handle the
crossing. Its easier for us.customer to pull the
grain into the US than canadian seller to push it
into the us. Also have your.friend fill out a
NAFTA certificate with rye on it. They are good
for a year. If you look after these details now,
before it gets.busy seeding, saying yes to a good
price happens easier and the paperwork less
flustering. Actually I think its empowering. Its a
          true business transaction.
Get falling numbers and protein tested at an
          accredited lab near you.
When talking to US buyer, tell them if you get
close to signing a contract you will be doing a
credit check for Accounts Receivables Insurance
on them so you may be asking for their D&B
number. Most buyers are fine with it. Any
buyers giving lame excuse, and deflecting from
          credit check do not sell.
