    Smart Meters

Sask Power thinks they are going to put one on
    our house, yeh right!

There is no evidence at all to say this is going to
benefit users. instead it will bombard us
continuously with radiation, allow Sask Power to
double charge and Smart Meter blog says some
    power bills have skyrocketted.

Smart Meter blog has some interesting
experiences poasted. What are all of you saying?

This is going to be interesting to say the least!!!!!!!! First of all the system works on cell phone technology for communicating. And at least in rural sask. the cell phone coverage is spotty to say the least in some areas. Next it is a new process so there will be numerous glitches in the system till they get it right. But there is no turning back, come hell or high water the powers that be have decided that they had to implement this to justify their highly paid postions.

They use 1 watt of signal, so even with
dicey cell coverage, that amount of
power should work in most cases.

The rural gas coop here installed AMRs here 2yr ago and havent as yet used mine I hear that some are working. They also tryed telephone readers about 5yr ago and never even hooked them up.
The REA installed AMRs about 1 yr ago I questioned them about them and all I got was we are luckey they went with AMRs instead of SMRs satelite meter readers but I dont see any real advantage to them aparently SMRs are a lot more costly.

We must have a stupid reader because our power bill has sky rocketted so has some neighbors doing the same thing as we always do, anyone else having the same problem?

The stories of the skyrocketting power bills are
concerning and certainly not going to be good
news, but I can tell you that there are on- line
power readers available on the internet. Been
            tried, work like magic.

I am not intending to allow the installation. i'll tie
a big Doberman to my power meter.

This is a tinfoil hat problem. As in "if you're really concerned then make yourself a tinfoil hat, otherwise get on with life".

Smart meters are just one component of a larger smart grid. The smart grid is an essential step to utilize alternate energy inputs. Hard as it may be for some of you to believe, smart meters may actually save you money by enabling you to buy power in off peak periods. You can rail against the moon or you can figure out the technology - either way its coming and you will be part of it.

BOTN I dont know what the costs are now but I sat as a director on the REA during deregulation and then it was very cost prohibitave, even now with AMRs and SARs there is an substancial cost . Sure we can do it but at what cost advantage.
Kind of remindes me of some gov accouants that took over the board of our gas coop a few yrs ago, wanted to run it like the gov , well I think we are still paying for that.
