New CWB Hockey Pool Allows Farmers to Score Big
CWB News Release
Winnipeg - CWB today announced the addition of a new playoff hockey pool to its 2012-13 line-up of pool offerings. Known for the serious business of operating price pools for several grains, CWB is introducing some fun to its pooling operations by offering farmers a chance to win prizes and bragging rights by predicting the outcome of this spring's hockey playoffs.
"The launch of CWB's new Hockey Pool is perfectly timed for farmers who have not yet entered a playoff pool, or for those who want to mitigate their playoff pool risk" said CWB president and CEO Ian White, tongue planted firmly in cheek. "There are other playoff pool options out there, but farmers recognize CWB as the industry expert in running pools," added White. "We wanted to provide them with a trusted, expert option in a marketplace that is highly fragmented."
The launch of CWB's Hockey Pool coincides with a late seeding season in many areas of the prairies.
"It feels like we're all stuck in the penalty box here, waiting to get back in the farming game. But trash-talking Mother Nature isn't going to get us anywhere," said honorary CWB Director of Hockey Pools Ron "The Goon" Walker. "It's time for a new game plan. It's time for some fun. And for a lot of farmers, that means CWB's Hockey Pool."
CWB's hockey pool is free of charge to all farmers, and includes prizes of $500, $250 and $100 for first, second and third place, respectively. Farmers can change their picks at any time before the sign-up deadline of Monday, May 6 at 6:00 pm CST. To sign up, farmers can go to www.cwb.ca/hockeypool .
