Checking. Yes commissions and councils do
make a big difference in non tariff barriers and
trade in general. I have seen it first hand. Hard to
convey in words on here the influence farmers
have in these high level issues
Oneoff I am a little suspect to your massive
negativity on this issue, to rant on like you have. I
think you really don't know what it's like to be
apart of these groups and would challenge you to
get involved to see what it's all about instead of
making blanket assumptions. In no way does
volunteering for these groups get you ahead. I
myself have been involved for 7 years in different
groups and I have never once taken a per diem. I
wouldn't come close to covering my expenses
never mind all my time away from the farm. I do
get to network with many people and I feel I get
value there but this isn't an old boys club ( though
it would be nice to see more women get involved)I
would love to discuss this with you in person and
see where all the animosity comes from

Wmoebis just a guess but i think this is
about not wanting to be seen "subsidising" a
profitable industry. From what I've seen
governments of all stripes and levels want
some industry skin in the game before they
      will release tax dollars.

Also if to be cynical its a big splashy
announcement to *give* WGRF. $80M but that's
only one announcement and they couldn't
      influence what was done.
In creating this Wheat Alliance it allows
      leveraging of scarce dollars.
Better control if your at the table
influencing what $$ are spent on.

Open your eyes and you will see cynicism, "the disengaged" and refusal to become involved and "tuned out" people everywhere.

And even one of you correctly observed that half (women) are not involved to an accepatable degree. Dismiss that too.
Automatically dismiss the valid other normally complacent concerns from what you see and you are back to your comfortable status quo.

And one of you correctely observed that half (women) are not involved to an accepatable degree. Dismiss that too.

And that dear sirs is why the elite has their special set of entitlements. It is also why you are not in touch with the majority. Just reread the posts in this thread; and take particularly little notice of the support from friends who have willingly thrown the accolades your way.

But that thankless job; and inadequate rewards crap is also the way Mike Duffy, Pamela Wallen, Brian Mulroney, paid councillor "scrutineers", $20,000 to $40,000 RM councillors etc. etc all feel they are not properly compensated.
And we haven't yet even properly assessed their actual performance....have we.

And yes I do talk to a very wide cross section of people; and there are only a relative few on whom it is a complete waste of time attempting a "conversation".

Ther is only feigned support for isuues such as unrepresentation of women on all these "old boy's clubs".

In my opinion; correcting that situation would bring a completely different perspective to rural politics and farmer organizations.

The chance of significant change is near zero.

Let just continue with "tar and feathers" and categorizing the few as "negativeists". The rest will watch as others are selectively bullied; and remain content that none of what is happening is of any concern within the present or forseeable time period.

No need to change anything??? And certainly don't acknowledge any points made (ie. for those with really short memories....under representation of females within rural "organizations")

Oneoff. Not sure what you mean about bullying
And elitism? Again not sure what experiences you
have had with organizations and the people
            involved.

Not sure about you either. But "old boy's clubs" don't make room for women ... do they??

Then again, maybe women know what to expect from old boys. Maybe thats just the status quo; and not about to change under your watch.
