    Friday Crop Report!

Well what a fun week since last Friday. Friday seeding was ok. But Friday night 1/4 inch that had every one in our area not seeding till noon or later in afternoon. Saturday night we had another 1/4 inch and their was only seeding on Sunday on lighter ground or where it hadn't rained as much. Sunday and Monday rain 1/2 inch or better. Wed seeding started very late in the day on heavy land lighter were able to go by noon. Rain makes mud not grain.
Funny how 1 inch in a week can make excellent seeding conditions fricking crap.
So seeding is at 75% complete most need 5 to 7 days to finish in our area. The next two day rain event were all hoping we miss as 3 inches of rain would make this a later next week start up again. Early HRS Barley and Peas are coming up really nice moisture conditions are excellent with excess in certain areas.
Canola and early soy are starting to poke their heads out.
Roads in RM are going to hell fast. Ammonia is not a problem but their was a shortage of phos last week. Spraying is going on calm days (But some sprayers are able to spray in 90km winds its amazing).
    Be safe!

Moisture is improving and everything is now out of
the groung and looking from fair to excellent.
Canola is a head scratcher as at 5 Ibs/acre it is
very dense. Counting 10-18 plants in a linear foot
on 12" spacing. Is this too much? Counting on
some canola experts to throw their two cents in.
Lentils and peas look real good and a general 2"
      rain would be welcome.

If you don`t double shoot (with the same
opener doing both seed and fert.) , and
you seed slowly into excellent moisture
conditions you are likely to do better at
3.5 lb per acre than 5 lb in canola.

Alj I agree 3.5 works but his 5 will work also . New
drills you have more plants survive

One good result of a higher seeding rate is less branching of the canola and possibly earlier maturing which would help if we have an earlier frost. Lower seeding rate saves money on seed but increases some risks that may only show up some years.

Myself I see cutworm damage most years and only in some fields. Thing is if there is cutworm damage bad on one of 12 then 5 lbs is worth it. Have a nieghbour that braggs 3 lbs with seedmaster with liberty canola then bayer gives them more seed when shit happens cause it is in the contract.

years rain makes mud! Not grain! Cheers!

That is so sad, you have my sympathies, been there in 2010, 50% seeded.
Dry fields here no chance of rain for 14 days, drought and flood at same time.
We are done for 2013, less than 1% unseeded acres!
