was checking canola field that was pounded with 1 1/2 " of rain minutes after seeding. was easyer to find cutworms than canola.
    sounds like two strikes already.
what would be a good strategy, spray before i see a canola plant?

The heat gun was reading minus 6 this morning at
5 o clock on the lawn. Must have been all of
minus 1 to minus 2 in the field. Flee beetle wit
have a hay day on all those damaged canola
      plants now.

Yea get those sprayers going I THINK I saw a song sparrow, havent seen a blue bird in 2 yrs, no gold finches this yr , very few sparrows,no warblersa .. Have got a few ducks and geese but the insecticides should get rid of a bunch of those too.
Ahhh the price of profit and progress.(not)

Horse, my yard is full of song birds. Brown Thrashers, Warblers, Sparrows, Blackbirds, Kingbirds, Meadowlarks, Finches, Robins, Morning-doves, Catbirds, Barn and Tree Swallows... So I conclude they prefer farmer's yards who, "spray the shit out of everything".

Had chem fallow 15 years ago and it was flea beetle heaven, undisturbed soil, keep checking.

And the earth worms are so thick there is hardly space for the seed in the soil!
Fertilizer, herbicides and roundup make no diff. Birds of all kinds here.
Insecticides I agree are a problem, dread ever needing to use them.

I'd prefer a few less "birds" over the infestation of
dandelions in cowboys pastures that pollute every
acre for miles around . 👹

last year we sprayed all our canola with matador. Best 4 bucks an acre I have ever spent gained us 5-10 bu per acre over guys who didn't know they had a cut worm/ flea beetle problem. Lots of bare patches in fields that didn't have insecticide last year.

co2 I guess I will dump the water out of bird bath, what chemical do you recomend to make them grow bigger and thicker?

Coleville I agree. The flora and fauna is more abundant this year than any time in recent memory. Must be that all those gm crops, fertilizers and chemicals make for more nutritious feed.

Yes Horse, dump that birdbath (I do
regularly), it could be full of mosquito
larva who are just waiting to be
infected with West Nile Virus. A
pathogen which I suspect has killed far
more birds and horses than any
                            responsible pesticide use has.

BTW I like the CO2 handle Very clever;-)
