    Winter Damage?

Has there been much winter-damage on fall-
    seeded crops?

    #2
I had to re seed 50 acres out of 420 winter
wheat. One big dead patch. The rest was
    acceptable.

It was planted on sandy land the day after 3/4
inch of rain. Everything germinated excellent and
was about 4-5 inches tall before the snow fell.
This spring most of the other stuff looked
respectible. This piece was just plain old dead.
You could see every seed row and the dead
vegetation, just like it had been sprayed!
The strange thing is this was a big hollow. No
        standing water just a hollow.
The pattern was opposite to what I expected for
sand land. Hilltops were well established doing
great. Hollows and low spots, dead as Dillinger.
I am new at winter wheat, so this is amateur
        observations.

Quite a bit in MB. For almost 20 years on my
family's farm this will be the first winter wheat crop
that was sown and not be harvested. Guess it
was too dry last fall after all. Some here in SK as
          well under same conditions.

Had a quarter of Buteo HRW killed off.
            It was on higher land.
