I would argue that canola represents a premium market based on its healthy oil profile. Further, there at least some tolerances for other canola type even in the specialty oil markets.

Do you disagree that canola is a healthy oil? What risk does canola oil present consumers as a GMO crop?

According to the study by the University of Caen,
Institute of Biology, CRIIGEN and Risk Pole, in
the 2 years in rats study to evaluate the health
effects of a Roundup-tolerant genetically modified
maize (from 11% in the diet), cultivated with or
without Roundup, and Roundup alone (from 0.1
ppb in water), in females, all treated groups died
2-3 times more than controls, and more rapidly.
This difference was visible in 3 male groups fed
GMOs. All results were hormone and sex
dependent, and the pathological profiles were
comparable. Females developed large mammary
tumors almost always more often than and
before controls, the pituitary was the second
most disabled organ; the sex hormonal balance
was modified by GMO and Roundup treatments.
In treated males, liver congestions and necrosis
were 2.5-5.5 times higher. This pathology was
confirmed by optic and transmission electron
microscopy. Marked and severe kidney
nephropathies were also generally 1.3-2.3
greater. Males presented 4 times more large
palpable tumors than controls which occurred up
to 600 days earlier. Biochemistry data confirmed
very significant kidney chronic deficiencies; for all
treatments and both sexes, 76% of the altered
parameters were kidney related. These results
can be explained by the non linear endocrine-
disrupting effects of Roundup, but also by the
overexpression of the transgene in the GMO and
its metabolic consequences(21).

articles like this, and decide to buy olive oil

Canola oil does not contain any genetic material. Having said, there may be a small amount of solids/proteins that make it through in the crushing process so I can't say canola oil doesn't contain any proteins. It will be extremely minute.

So if I look at the vegetable oil health profile of olive oil versus canola oil and all the uses including deep frying, how does canola oil stack up to olive oil. Which poses a greater risk to consumers. Presence of minute amounts of GMO in canola oil or levels of trans fats/saturated fats?

Or perhaps neither are that risky if consumed in moderation as a part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

I must be half educated because I have olive and canola in my house. But I consume because I enjoy. From my diet day, 2 teaspoons a day are a healthy diet.

I dont care what kind of oil your deep
frying your food in, its unhealthy to
eat it 3x a day. Canola is no magic
potion that lets you eat excessive
amounts or deep fried foods without
significant health risks.

Yes. The changes to oil profile were done using conentional breeding techniques aided likely by some of the new breeding techinques and not genetic engineering.

If you are going to comment on a crop that brings provides western Canadian farmers with millions of dollars worth of revenue, make sure you are educated and prepared to answer questions. In the end of the day, we all deal with the same consumer.

To further, vegetable oil on its own does not contain genetic material.

Further, the first versions of specialty oil where not GE. Herbicide tolerance was added later so it could compete in farmers rotations with conventional canola.

You will eat what you choose, charliep, which
perhaps does not include high-priced organic
cocoanut oil, or discredited palm oil either.
Premium markets only exist because people are
willing or can afford to pay. Organic chicken will
continue to be purchased by people who can
afford it but 'ground chicken unknowns' is a
larger market-share.

Organic coldpressed canola oil once commanded
a premium price, which discontinued because of
possible GM contamination, but that market has
simply not been filled by conventional canola,
has it. The educated and informed remain
unwilling to replace the unavailable expensive
organic canola with a cheaper conventional
canola. Hmmm. if you think the educated are
