    Seeding 2013 pics

Seeding 2013 started May 17thish... Finished June 10thish.

Put in 10 quarters of peas, wheat, canola, oats, and a bit of barley.

Lots of trials too. Polish canola, varying fertility.

All of it was zero-tilled, other than barley onto flax which got a wishek disk treatment because we couldn't get the drill through the residue.

Had two major breakdowns... one, center hinge of the drill let go completely, drill folded back on itself.... caught it quick, welded everything together... all good again. 2nd one, hydraulic pump on the MF 4840 let go. $1900 later and we were back in the field.

Let's start of with some scenery pics...

    and trees....

Lots more to come... Questions/comments welcome.

Very neat pictures. Thanks. What is it about
farming pictures that makes them so interesting?
I still have an MF 4800 although I don't use it for
    seeding anymore.

Always good to hear others are not on the
canola canola canola train of self-
      destruction.

      Cool pix.

Nice Job, Looks like you took over some pretty tough land. Been there done that. All I can say is put the money and time into cleaning it up as fast as possible. All the better if you own it if you are going to clean it up but even if you are renting it its still worth it.

Keep us posted on the canola and durum.
Very interested in trying polish canola again.

I also have to get new durum seed for next year.

                Jag,

Have you noticed the Synergy having more vigour than Argentine varieties?

Ours was 3 days ahead of the Argentine RR varieties even though it was seeded 2 days later.... right out of the dirt it's growing faster.

Cotton .I was thinking the book said 1
liter per season of 356 to 360. and
stronger roundup .67 liter of 540 per
                  season.

                    Klause

The only Canola we seeded this year was Synergy.

It is off to a great start with even germination. There
is no bare spots in the field.

Hoping to get it sprayed this week. We will be using
Muster and Assure for weed control. What are you
                    using for weed control?

You will be fine with a full liter (360 gram) rate.
We have done it a lot and have never had a
problem. If you would go over a spot 3 time or
something you might see some damage
                      otherwise it's fine.

Yes, same here... I have bare spots in all three types of RR canola we grew where the hills were too dry for germination (it's coming in now).... And the Polish stuff just filled in, nice rows you can see from road.

We are doing the same thing you are... we sprayed it with 1L/ac of gly 4 days after seeding (1 day before emergence)... and as soon as it's dry now, we'll hit it with Assure II and Muster.
