Even when you put the gun thing aside, isnt it a little
creepy that they where rummaging through
houses, its not like people store their guns on kitchen
tables, you kind of have to take a good look.

And as far as looters, this isnt exactly new orleans.

At the end of the day, it will be the people of High
River who have endured a tragedy beyond almost
anyones belief who have lost everything who will
judge this event and the actions taken. Similar
comments for Calgarians and those in other areas. I
cannot comment on their feelings in time of extreme
pain because I have not had to endure what they are.
Perhaps the one saving grace is the limited loss of life
in a disaster and their neighbours desire to support
them. Other stuff is just discussion.

charliep and rockpile both make eminent sense and grasp the real tragedy of the situation and they are correct as to who will judge how the remedial action to help these people was conducted and how effective it was. So many squawks about real or imagined violations of our rights...so much wasted wind and totally unhelpful.

I don't get flood tragedy and guns in the same context. Stupid me. Are anyone affected going to thank the powers that be?

Yes it is a tragedy but I sure would like to know why the provincial and municipal government give the go ahead to build in areas that over history are in suspect locations. It is too bad the greed for tax collection over comes common sense.

For what it is worth, here is the report prepared after the 2005 flood.

So it turns out that this WAS a purge, thinly disguised -

Exactly Blackjack. People who build in lowlying
areas are building there at their own risk. Even if
the engineers and the municipal governments are
unable to govern properly using the best
information available, they should know that there
is that possibility. Why should I be on the hook
for the expense when it floods? Billions of
taxpayer dollars have been spent on flood claims.
Do you wonder why your insurance companies
do not cover overland flooding? Because they do
not want to cover people who build on
                    floodplains. Nor do I!

To all you admiring the heroics of the
brave RC's breaking into houses for the
public good. How would you feel if the
                      headline read "thousands of computers
seized in flood zones to prevent cyber
crime". Just because it isn't your ox
being gored doesn't make it right to sit
by while others are being oppressed.
                      Australian Lieutenant General David
Morrison put it very well "the standard
you walk past is the standard you
accept". Using the backdrop of such a
tradgety as a distraction to conduct
this social experiment makes it even
                      more agrgious.

I have my doubts about a "social experiment" being exercised in this situation. Why is everything about the disaster and its consequences involving a conspiracy of sorts? Too many guesses and too little knowledge perhaps?

It appears the RCMP's gun grab will be
                          investigated.
