What is so troubling is when the deep insecurities of a few begin dictate the parameters of the existence of the entire society. Eventually, as you pointed out, the "legal" authority itself becomes the source of the harm inflicted on the populace.

Rockpile, I am not belittling your service; in fact I deeply respect what you did to provide a necessary service to the community.

However, the day you turn a fire house on my house because the roof is warm from the sun is the day that you will lose all respect from me, as well as all the resistance that I can muster.

Ado, nothing was seized, the guns were removed
and secured and will be given back to the owners
when things settle down. It's a bit extreme to
compare this situation to the likes of Pol Pot and
the killing fields in Cambodia. Just the same, for the
deceased, location is not really material. Btw, no
one will be charged. Also, there are still 25 people
in the High River area unaccounted for.
Let me run something past you. It's 3 AM and your
neighbour calls 911 to report that your house is on
fire. The FD arrives, there is no sign of anyone
around, flames are coming through the roof and
smoke coming out windows. I guarantee you no one
will stop to ring the door bell. It will be an interior
response with the hope it is a rescue and not a
recovery. And if possible, attempts will be made to
remove your valuables. I take the opposite
viewpoint. All of this intrusion is to in fact protect
your life, your property and your rights. But
supposing the guns were left behind, and a bad guy
did get a hold of them and committed a crime with
them, would the owner not be partially responsible?
Something about opportunity? Shouldn't happen
because there are some 3 to 4 hundred extra
Mounties brought into the area to secure it.
Nevertheless, when the situation is out of control,
there is no time to sit around and debate points of
personal privilege. But if you are truly concerned
about your privacy and rights, have you done your
due diligence to oppose the proposed internet
spying Bill?

not. Where I come from, if we wanted a golf course,
We built one. If we wanted a clubhouse, curling rink
and bowling alley, We built one. When we needed a
new Community Hall, We built one. When we
wanted an arena with artificial ice, yep, WE built
one. When we wanted ball diamonds for our kids
and community, WE built them. When we wanted a
re-cycling depot, WE built one. When we wanted
natural gas to heat our homes, shops and barns, We
started a gas co-op. When we wanted an up to date
FD, WE built one. Long story short. In our
community of about 2,000, I guess we have about
2,000 do-gooders. You mean there is another way?
And I suggest you folks check out some up to date
news sources regarding the High River issue. BTW,
both the Premier and Justice Minister stand behind
the RC's. And as one High River official suggested,
maybe the PMO should quit worrying about guns
and start sending some immediate aid for the
12,000 dislocated residents. That's all folks, I have
a football game to watch.

I think a distinction can be made
between putting out a fire or searching
for those that are uncounted for and
wasting time and resources rounding up a
bunch of orphaned guns. The only people
running around high river stealing
weapons was the RCMP. If 25 people are
missing you have to visit and if you
feel necessary enter at most 25
residences. Furthermore if people were
running around HR stealing stuff they
now have a bunch of open doors to make
it easier. I meant no disrespect to the
victims of oppressive regimes but
standing by idle while individual rights
are eroded does nothing to serve their
memory either. You only deserve what you
are willing to tolerate.

I suspect the RCMP will have to apologize and
will likely be sued by many people due to this
illegal break and entry without warrants.
Whoever gave the order should be arrested as
well.
How can looters easily see guns inside a house
when it is locked up?
They claim to have hundreds of guns
repossessed so this is more than randomly
stumbling across them.
Wouldn't it have been easier to simply put trigger
locks on all the guns if that was in fact the issue?
If they forced their way into homes and left them
unlocked they have now made the houses easier
targets for looters. What about TV's, jewellery,
furniture etc now when the door has been kicked
in?

The trust level of the RCMP has definitely
dropped to a very low level.

One more question I'd be raising is did the RCMP
actually destroy the registry for long guns like they
were supposed to? I'd be very suspicious about
how random the houses were that they picked to
do B&E's on.

Unnecessary search and seizure, maybe not illegal if
ordered, but obviously abuse of power. This country
moves closer to a police state and the loss of
individual rights every day.

Whoever told the RCMP to carry out this mission
has to be publicly fired. If the RCMP undertook
break ad enter by themselves, Ottawa has to sit
down and have a short talk with the head of the
