charliep, you made a very reasonable comment.

I'm sure that the scope of the tragedy will always overshadow what were some bad decisions made by a few in the pressure of the moment.

Not sure how one would trust again when we see how easily things that we take for granted - life, liberty and the enjoyment of one's property - can be taken away so suddenly.

Oops, except now that the RCMP has raised the stakes in the game they started.

      A pox upon their houses.

Well its illegal for children to sell lemonade in some
        parts of north america.

It will probably take something you lose personally to
change your bias on what powers the state should
        have.

I wonder if the RCMP realize how much
goodwill and social license they pissed
away with these break, enter, and
seizures. The harm they did to their
          brand, far outweighs any theoretical
          crime they prevented.

I wonder if they also realize how their
            actions could affect future evacuations
where people will spend time hiding their
shit from a home invasion by the police
rather then getting out and living?

You mean like their pot plants? That would go along
ways to explaining every paranoia here. They tell me
smoking too much weed contributes to schizophrenia.

I Do. Not. Approve. of RCMP bashing down
doors without search warrants charliep, and my
opinion is neither enhanced nor diminished by the
plants you reference; I've never smoked weed,

Not surprising that those told to defend the AB
govt's order to invade homes will pull out the old
                humiliation and alienation tactics.

                Unfortunately,applying scarlet lipstick on the
Alberta pig that sent the RCMP out rooting
through flooded homes aint pretty, but instead
made a lot of Canadians shudder in horror.

To remind you the primary goal at that time was to establish whether people were still in their houses when an evacuation notice had been given under the powers of the Emergency Measures Act. I highlight the pictures of people being rescued from their houses by combine, gravel truck, etc. The town had a mandatory evacuation notice that was being enforced. The risk was people being left behind in very unsafe conditions and perhaps paying the ultimate price of stupidity. From wd9 standpoint, any stupid enough to do that deserves to die (Darwin's theory) but that is another debate.

People die in accidents, doesn't make
them stupid. People push limits in
                    emergencies.

I think this topic may be a bit out of
                    control - even for agriville.

And what was primary goal point one? The video that has come out showing their searching doesn't have a lot of urgency to their inspections. Maybe that's because they knew that nobody would be found inside those homes and nobody was reported missing or still in town?

They were presented with a beautiful opportunity to look through the homes of an evacuated town and they took it. What better way to punish people who don't agree with needing a piece of paper to maintain ownership of grandpa's shotgun. Now to get it back they have to jump through their hoops and background checks when maybe they haven't even had a speeding ticket before.

That's not paranoia charlie, that is the state and police getting too full of themselves and their need to control the population.

If there are any RCMP members reading this I have to say I am embarrassed at the amount of people on here running down the RCMP for doing what they were told to do. They were checking to ensure everyone was safe in each house.

For those of you paranoid hill billies trying to politicize a relatively non issue compared to the flood devastation, grab a f n brain!!!! But I guess better rumble up some non issues to talk about since none of you hill billies want to talk about the real criminals stealing money on the hill and using secret accounts to pay off anyone and everyone to keep all the acts of theft quiet.

Running down people that put their lives at risk every day they put the uniform on so that everyone including you hill billies can be safe, over this issue, how embarrassing.

That debate will occur after the disaster is over.

At the moment, my concern is with the people who have been impacted by this disaster and helping them deal with the road ahead. I also support my colleagues in government including the workers on the front lines who are making the difficult daily decisions around managing this issue/providing services to the individuals who have been impacted. That includes the RCMP who I don't consider a threat to my well being/freedom.

Apologize but my frustration showing through when people highlight one issue when there are litterly hundreds of others being dealt with second by second. There are no perfect answers in this disaster. Just individuals making difficult decisions in an imperfect world.

I will note I am in Edmonton and have no role in the what is going on in Calgary and High River. I
