I would rather be a self sufficient,
        independent hillbilly than a government
        dependent, fearful yuppie.

Some interesting thoughts of you, Rocky:

          1. High River had a disaster plan in place. From
what i have read, it did not include the War
Measure's Act. The Emergency Measures Act
          was never declared.

          2. The houses were locked. The area was
immediately secured by police, and the army. no
one could get back into town. Access was
          blocked at all entrance.

3, There is a rumor that the EMA was not
invoked because a judge would not sign the
order for the RCMP as the area was already
          secured.

          4. Read a little more on canadiangunnutz dot

          Pars

          3. All laws, including the Charter and the Billbof
Rights have to be followed by all citizens
including both police and army. In other words,
the army can't kill 59 women because they keep
getting in the way of sandbagging.

I rest my case Pars. That is the entire reason i
started this post. Did any of that crap actually
happen? It is Sun News. The one person they
did put on camera made an ass of Sun News.
He did not have his gun stored properly. They
did not kick in his safe storage gun cabinet.
He had no problem with what happened. Did
they actually kick any safe gun storage? I
doubt like hell. As far as front doors go, I do
believe that ALL places must be checked in
              this type of disaster notice.

They obviously cannot force you to leave your own house in an emergency like this. They did not drag the people who stayed in town out by their ears, they simply moaned about how stupid they were to stay. Why didn't they go to the non evacuees houses and take their guns/valuables? Just watched a video of a resident whose house was dry and locked up and he left town. Why did they have to break his door in and try and get into his gun safe inside a locked closet? They were unsuccessful. If I am in my house with no flood waters evident, should I expect my door to be broken in ?

This isn't about guns. It is about whether a man's (or Parsley's) home is their castle?

Better read and watch a little more, agchat. Guy
on Sun at noon: door broken in , gun cupboard
broken in and raided. He's not in the flood area.
Lots of guys with their locked gun cupboards
broken into by the police. That is a criminal act in
                  my books.

The RCMP's intent was not to protect. Or to
save pets. If you buy that line, you need to get
off your tractor for a few days and clear your
                  head. Pars

agchat, mustardman, rocky wilagro and others who believe the government or its extensions can do no wrong - here is a piece of philosophy that will no doubt help you rest well at night -

"I'm from the government and I'm here to help you..."

Parsley, you better open the windows and get some
fresh air - the paint fumes are getting to you. Let's
try something different and throw some facts on
the table. Yes, High River had a disaster plan like
every other community in Alberta. But it wasn't long
into the event that the Mayor asked the Province to
assume responsibility for the situation because they
were overwhelmed. All other communities affected
were 'Local States of Emergency'. High River became
                      a 'Provincial State of Emergency'.
Now for the rumours. The Emergency Measures Act
is an Act of Govt - like the Highway Traffic Act. You
don't need a judge to sign anything - it's an Act of
the Legislature administered by the Dept of
Municipal Affairs. And it is broad and
comprehensive. At the top of the heap is the
                      Alberta Emergency Management Agency. They
administer 9 specific response plans each designed
to respond to different risks or situations. The top
dog is the AEMA Director. When the Province
accepted responsibility for High River, it was the
Director who immediately invoked the 'Emergency
Assistance Plan - level 4' (highest level) which
allows for the Director, Cabinet, Premier to call on
all assistance and resources available. That's when
the army came. This is the Reader's Digest version.
Finally, this whole gun stuff is a big yawn among
the locals who are far more interested in just having
                      a normal life again.

                        There is a problem, Houston.

The Emergency Act was not invoked until the
                        28th.

The search and seizures took place before the
                        28th.

What is a big yawn to some,( for instance break
and enter), is a really big deal for others.

And that is how freedom is kept or lost. Pars
