Klause, why do you grow varieties that
are consistently lower yielders then the
    top RR varieties?

Then what are the top RR varieties?

Is there such thing as top RR varieties?
        (Old Inviger joke) ;-)

Well yes there are. H29, 7444
consistently perform better then other rr
          and as good as liberty.

Whether you look at plot data or
especially crop ins data its easy to pick
          a couple top winnners.

Nice looking crops klause. Those oats look
wicked. Anyone growing any Triactor oats?
Thinking of trying some next year.

                  Thanks....

Reasons we grow what we do...

VT500 is one of the highest yielding varieties "here". So we tried it.
VT9553 is my stand-by variety... I got it to do in the 40s and once 57 in Manitoba. It's shorter season, stands very well, and doesn't shatter.
1990 is very short season. Was worried about frost this spring....

Next year we'll cut the 9553 out, replace it with H32 from Pioneer, and probably go to some 5440 instead of 1990 on the cleaner fields.

Walked in another field of peas today... they're 3' tall and just starting to flower. Getting a touch excited about this crop. Now let's keep the hail, high winds, and excess rain away.

seabass, yeah... On top of the previous 9". Friends there have lost everything this year... houses flooded out. Roads are gone. It's a nightmare

                      Haven't posted in a while....

Happy, I am growing a little over a section of Triactor Oats. They did the best last year on my farm, seem to handle water, nice big plant. I use folicur on all of them as well which seemed to really help last year. this year added some micro's in crop which seemed to make them jump as well. so far so good!

Straight from the Ag canada data for MB:

                              VT500 91,000 acres 25 bpa
                              L150 862,000 acres 27 bpa
                              5440 592,000 acres 27 bpa
                              7375 122,000 acres 30 bpa

Farmers choosing to grow varieties is an
                              interesting and puzzling process.
