Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

The diversity of conditions in Western Canada seems to cover everything from one extreme to the other.

I may not be in the "garden spot" of the Prairies but learned to deal with the variability. Over my lifetime I would say we tend drier than wetter. Even in the "wet cycle" we never had it near as bad as the fellows not too far east of here.

Freewheat, maybe take a page from Grassfarmer's book. I think he's onto something. Cattle producers are getting scarce, they do things different than our forefathers and the prices are very good. Can always go back to crop production. Mow around the bluffs to keep them the original size in case you want to grain fsrm it again.

Hang in there. Hopefully there will be lots of nice harvest days in the next 6 weeks for you.

Hope things turn around for you freewheat.
If not I remember the Cuban Assassination dude saying he was going to get a bunch of bail out money and seemed like a guy who will grab any land any where to prompt his cause - you might have too call him - but set your price very high so you can get into more animals and grass . I am sure he has loads of cash because he keeps the rest of AG alive . Set the price high enough that you can walk away from the swamp land . I am sure he will get a bail out next year for being too wet 😅 cause he is a big farmer and has connections ..

Big exodus last few years in our area out of cattle.
Some of those who remain in cattle grow grain as a sideliine and for own feed.
Local land is variable, some hilly and well drained, other flat and harder to farm in wet years.
Do not see any trend yet back to grass and pasture land.
Seem to be getting farther and farther away from days of my youth when mixed cattle grain operations were most popular.

free wheat. slow down and take a breath. your not the first and wont be the last that the stars dont align for.thats just the way it is its not your fault. however after saying that you will be surprised how valuable a person of your experience can be to another farmer as an employee. less stress and money in the bank.works for some. good luck.

Somewhere between 40 and 50 I gained some serenity (maybe) from a feeling of being resigned to my fate. Steel is hard because its been thru the fire and felt the hammer... But, your physical and mental health is ultimately the best for your family. Good Luck.

Steel sharpens Steel! We learn what kind of steel we are made of... and learn to take the pounding of the forge hammer... then when the final edge formed... it can be as sharp as a razor... if we are patient! 2015 may just be that kind of year!

I am not religious in any way but the first three lines of the serenity prayer can do alot for your constitution. Funny how my attitude has changed over the years...and no it hasn't gotten worse!!!

Crop report....DONE harvest except for afew low spots. Machinery dealer says to me its early too bad you didnt have more to harvest, there's time. I told him, ahhh I don't like farming that much.
