Did the CWB take ownership of the malt once it was accepted? Chitting of barley and the resulting loss of germ during storage is nothing new.

To widen my view, canola was never under the CWB and was historically a profitable crop to grow. Lately the greed of the seed co's has tarnished this somewhat but their pricing policies have nothing to do with the government of the day.

In my opinion one of the problems we have as Canadians is that we expect way to much out of government yet we really don't want it to interfere with our day to day lives or operations of our businesses. This only empowers the government and soon they feel they have to more and more for us, build the bureaucracy, spend more money. Hardly any of the things people complain about on here are truly within the power of the government to do much about so it is up to us as individuals to position our lives and businesses to deal with the shit that happens in business and everyday life. You have to have the ability to deal with your own shit. We all complain about the government. I believe that once we lower our expectations of what they can do or need to do for us, it will be surprising what a decent job is actually being done.

BFW. You hit the nail on he head. The grass's and mustard's have a hard time competing in the real world and want that government meddling to bring everyone back to the same playing field. That was the definition of the CWB. " willing to take less as long as everyone gets the same". And bucket your comment about malt barley now vs then shows you must not have grown malt before and after the monopoly. Of all the changes its been he biggest for malt

I will lower my expectations of government right after the ceos of the railways and graincos lower theirs.

Was I supposed to phone the police when the RR's weren't performing? Or when the GrainCo's basis was absurd because of it?

Government sets policy and makes laws. Sometimes regulations to "balance power" are needed, if government doesn't, who will?

Spenshi I like that. Family in Cowtown and people I know who work in the city certainly do not care much for him. Typical progressive know it all who when in federal politics if and when he gets there will be the one who builds govt to do more for us because only they know what is better for us when all we need to do is more for ourselves. Marketing freedom from the grips of the cwb is the best ag policy move for our farm in the 30 years I have planted crop. Moves to make the logistics and railway more accountable coming but need them quicker yet. TPP bring it on! Harper cons not perfect but they get my vote and support.

With the CWB file, "the government" put the cake in the oven and forgot to take it out. I have to say in the " Goodale as Ag Minister Era" , I don't think that would have happened because Goodale would have delegated the planning, been accessible to all sectors and implemented checks and balances-the difference between a professional planner and an amateur. as for the incarceration of farmers- deplorable and as a human, I hope he publicly apologizes, but prolly won't. Sorry to get off the track. Just my opinion.

Goodale apologize for putting farmers in jail? I don't think that will happen. Personally I hope he gets thrown out on his butt on Oct 19. He's been at the trough long enough. Probably won't happen either.

Oh by the way vvalk according to mnp I am one of the top producers in their area, which I believe is your area too.
So don't try and label me as a loser

Yeah it's funny mustard how vvalk labels people as winners or losers without knowing anything about them. In agricultural terms i'm operating on 10 times the acres my father started on, 25 times what my grandfather started with, all of it bought and paid for through every generation by entrepreneurial free enterprise.
Doesn't mean there hasn't been plenty room for charity and compassion to fellow man along the way. That is what was behind Nenshi's speech but I guess most didn't even listen to that, preferring to turn it into another CWB discussion.

VValk..."hard time competing in the real world"... Real world defined by whom...How many companies were chosen "winners" by the our government with bailouts during 2008, banks is just one example
"The study reveals that Canada’s banks received $114 billion in cash and loan support from both the U.S. and Canadian governments during the 2008-2010 financial crisis. The study estimates that at some point during the crisis, three of Canada’s banks—CIBC, BMO, and Scotiabank—were completely under water, with government support exceeding the market value of the bank. - See more at: https://www.policyalternatives.ca/newsroom/updates/study-reveals-secret-canadian-bank-bailout#sthash.KnM4nH1I.dpuf"

So this is your "real world"...help some, but not others. The "free market" is not what capitalists tout, it is manipulated, supported and winners are chosen, but it sounds impressive.
And the list is much. much bigger.
So, make it good for a few or make it good for many is the bottom line...
Did hear Nenshi's speech and was impressed. He is an inspiring fellow....

Actually Grassfarmer I did listen to what he said on the CBC. He explained his position very well. If polls are to be believed there are many people in Canada who disagree with him. I believe Canada is much more flexible and accommodating than many countries in the world especially Muslim countries. I also think Canada has many more pressing issues than the niquab and the politically correct elite telling us how we should think doesn't house the homeless or provide prosperous futures for our youth.

You are right I haven't grown barley. But my neighbors have and they haven't noticed a difference in the ****ed up protocol of being accepted, then no delivery, then being rejected.

Same things are still happening out in but**** saskatchewan. And no politician gives a shit. It's all sunshine and lollipops according to them and guys like that religious zealot that posts here.
