    Hamloc

Your malt barley example I agree with but it's a narrow view.

It illustrates that the cwb needed new management not a new end user owner.

It benefits you. Good. But there are still guys getting ****ed on malt.

Once it's accepted it should be put in the maltser ownership and let them deal with downgrading at their convenience. Instead of letting it sit in farmers bin and missing an opportunity to sell feed barley at a higher price after they reject it as malt in the later months.

It isn't the fact they kyboshed the Board that gets my dander up, it was the haste and lack of planning that drives me nuts....

The benifits you mention Hamloc are real but...!

They had 4 years to ease into it but opened the flood gates without checks and balances.
Bucket brings up very good points about the transportation file, no transparent reporting of sales, exchange mysteries in basis...

What the hell is it going to take for people like you to realize there is no future. Open your god damn eyes.

bucket, that's no different than before, missing all the winter feed rallies only to have barley rejected in June. My barley went out of condition more than once prior to market freedom. Very little of my barley gets contracted to Canadian maltsters for long term delayed delivery now.

mustard, you'll have to name the legislation, because, no, I've never seen any recent legislation that only benefitted <i>"Grain Co's, Chemical co's, Seed co's/chemical co's The railroads" </i> without also benefitting farmers.

Did the CWB take ownership of the malt once it was accepted? Chitting of barley and the resulting loss of germ during storage is nothing new.

To widen my view, canola was never under the CWB and was historically a profitable crop to grow. Lately the greed of the seed co's has tarnished this somewhat but their pricing policies have nothing to do with the government of the day.

In my opinion one of the problems we have as Canadians is that we expect way to much out of government yet we really don't want it to interfere with our day to day lives or operations of our businesses. This only empowers the government and soon they feel they have to more and more for us, build the bureaucracy, spend more money. Hardly any of the things people complain about on here are truly within the power of the government to do much about so it is up to us as individuals to position our lives and businesses to deal with the shit that happens in business and everyday life. You have to have the ability to deal with your own shit. We all complain about the government. I believe that once we lower our expectations of what they can do or need to do for us, it will be surprising what a decent job is actually being done.

BFW. You hit the nail on he head. The grass's and mustard's have a hard time competing in the real world and want that government meddling to bring everyone back to the same playing field. That was the definition of the CWB. " willing to take less as long as everyone gets the same". And bucket your comment about malt barley now vs then shows you must not have grown malt before and after the monopoly. Of all the changes its been he biggest for malt

I will lower my expectations of government right after the ceos of the railways and graincos lower theirs.

Was I supposed to phone the police when the RR's weren't performing? Or when the GrainCo's basis was absurd because of it?

Government sets policy and makes laws. Sometimes regulations to "balance power" are needed, if government doesn't, who will?
