150 Billion added to the Canadian national debt, 750 million spent on government adds, and two recessions in six years!!!

Ya, Harper did a wonderful job, spent all the taxpayers money, and not a thing to show for it!!!

Canada came through the global financial crisis better than most other G8 countries. While that was largely due to the banking system that wasn't as leveraged as elsewhere, at least Harper didn't spend like the drunken sailor that the opposition wanted. The Conservatives were harshly criticized by both the NDP and Liberals for not blowing money out the door fast enough. When you say that Harper added $150 billion to the debt, be glad he was in power or that figure would have been much larger.
Go ahead and attack my character forage, I know you've got no position to defend.

well at lest as a farmer i do something worthwhile in this country'cancel debt review board,agri-invest,agristability,etc and have thousands of government employees do something worth while.to blame harper for all this debt is ridiclous.one excample of many.by our place the put new culverts in drilling under the highway'bringing in washed stones from 70 miles away taking over 6 months and i presume an engineer sitting all day ,every day doing nothing and costing 3 times the amount it couldve cost.the highway fell in and now the place arund looks terrible where the stones are,full of weeds. beaurcrats higher up government employees and engineers cost us taxpayers alot of money and screwups.dont need higher taxes,effecicenty.

Nothing to attack, it was Paul Martin who prevent the big six banks to amalgamate and follow the USA lead.

Nothing to attack, it was Paul Martin who prevented the big six banks from deregulating and amalgamating. Your buddy Harper who was in opposition at the time, critizied Martin for not letting the banks do what they wanted. So basically, Paul Martin, saved your fat asssed buddy Harper, who doesn't know the first thing about the economy of Canada

So before you get your shorts in a knot about how good Harper is, at least get the story straight!!!!

Are you saying amalgamating banks would have weakened them? You'll have to explain how that works, because it doesn't make much sense to me.

I wouldn't be bragging up Paul Martin if I was you. He knew how to make sure his government kept their hands in every one else's pockets, while at the same time claiming he didn't know people in his department were busy stealing $30 million from taxpayers and diverting the money to the Liberal Party of Canada (Adscam). It didn't cost him many tax dollars though because his company ship was flying foreign flags so he could avoid Canadian taxes and labour laws.

When a farmer makes a buck though, he has to pay the full shot, because we can't register our farms in Barbados to avoid Canadian taxes.

I still didn't see any analysis of how bank amalgamation would have weakened the industry.

While I don't think the Conservatives are perfect by any means (eg. $4 billion pandering to supply management), I sincerely doubt Canada would be doing any better under any of the other parties.
Taxing the crap out of everyone to subsidize inefficiency with governments pinking winners and getting their fingers into everyone's business makes no economic sense.

Ask yourself about the big six merging as two or maybe three banks what happens to competition. Think about that one for a while. I can't put it any simpler!!!

Wow, where do I start with that forage.
You make a lot of assumptions about me. You may assume because I think the free market is the best way to run an economy, that I would be happy with amalgamation of the banking system...but, while economies of scale will reduce the costs in a system, the concentration of supply of a product (eg. banking) into the hands of a few entities leads to excessive profits in those few players hands, which leads to other market inefficiencies. At least the current banking industry still allows for smaller players like credit unions to operate if the big boys get too greedy.
A good government will leave the opportunity open to everyone to participate and eliminate excessive market influences that encourage the gouging of weaker players. This is something I commend the Conservatives for in eliminating the buying monopoly of the single desk buyer of wheat and barley. I personally don’t think they went far enough to eliminate the monopoly in rail transportation, but at least they started the process. This is something that definitely can’t be said about the other 2 parties.

Judging from the rhetoric that you’ve been posting at us farmers here on Agriville, I doubt this is something that you want to hear, but sometimes the truth hurts.
