    when harper resigns

Looking forward which is important to me. Who will be the front runners to lead the conservative party?

Had they put a new leader in prior to this election I think the conservatives would have won easily.

Even horses back in the 20s while farming had to be put out to pasture. Not to say they could be used for some back up but not day to day.

Same with farms etc. The successful one have the knowledge of when to turn over the reigns.

I digress. Who will be the next leader of the federal conservatives.

3 years ago I would have said Brad Wall. But that's too much for him. He can hardly handle riders picks and he has to pick the riders on one pick every week. He probably has alot of political favors still to repay. Could get ugly. He really ****ed up the assiniboa land/CPPIB thing.

Peter Mackay maybe but I think he put himself out to pasture.

John Baird with ties to cp - Geezus.

Where are the up and comers. That the problem. Harper turned this party into the liberal party of the 90s and forgot about renewal.

If harper was not the conservative leader I would more than likely voted conservative this time again.

The Conservative party needs to find someone not a puppet of the reform oil party and they could do great things for the country. But I think they have such a hold over true conservatives that the only way for true conservatives to emerge in the party is if they expose what has been going on and clean house be honest with Canadians.

Canada needs a Conservative party or some type of party that represents conservative values for the individual not just the corporate select that pull the puppet strings.

Oil has far reaching control of all parties. Look at why the liberal advisor resigned and the ndp Levine lobbying is getting looked at.

Agreed but not so much worried about oil as the power of the railways and their arrogance.

Even the families are no match for the railways.

Baird was and will be a runner for the PM job eventually with the backing of the railways. HF. Not good.

I think he is a little wishy-washy and question his allegiance and dedication to the Party.

Bucket, I agree with your assessment. Unfortunately the best of the Conservative Party saw this coming and left before the election was called.

Say what about Jim Prentice. He is of the Conservative fold, held 3 fed cabinet posts under Harper, knows when to quit, and best of all is available for the job now!

Baird comes across as a mouth-piece, gruff, and rough around the edges. McKay appears to be way more of a diplomatic Statesman by far. I wonder if he quit to distance himself from the current leader and bunch that are there now?

Just because you agree with a party's philosophy doesn't mean you have to agree with everything they do, isn't that the way it should be? That's what makes any party stronger.

I agree they should have put a new leader in. Harper has done some good but I had hoped for much more. I wish Ritz would lose in his riding but that isnt going to happen.

Are you guys kidding about prentice.

He picked up and left like a spoiled kid.

He still had a riding to represent.

Did anyone else see Ritzs article "grain backlog did not affect farm incomes" His rationale is that incomes did not drop in the years of the grain backlog therefore the backlog did not cost farmers money.

But Gerry we grew record volumes with average to above average world prices. We should have had record farm incomes.

Hard to believe they are willing to put up billions to protect and compensate supply managed producers who have a monopoly.

Meanwhile grain farmers are dealing with a Duopoly in the case of the railways and a oligopoly in the case of the grain companies. It has been proven that wide basis cost us billions and Ritz says everything is great!!!!!!

stonepicker, I agree. But this government has done the absolute opposite. They do not listen. They built a one man government. In fact until the last year all government communications referred to THE HARPER GOVERNMENT, instead of the Government of Canada or even the Conservative government. They are ideologues who rush in legislation with no regard to the laws of Canada or the impacts it will have. They do not finish what they start ie the cwb. If they lose this election it will not be because another party beat them or had better ideas, they will have lost it on their own arrogance. They have no one to blame but themselves.

Bucket, yes, sorry, Prentice was a joke but I am afraid that is the type of candidates who will rush to lead this party.
