    Shipping to the USA

    Charlie, did you see this?

    The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will require advance notice of each shipment of food into the U.S.

    The notice must include a description of all articles, each article's manufacturer and shipper, grower (if known), originating country, country from which the article is shipped, and anticipated port of entry.

    New regulations will apply to all facilities for all foods and animal feed products that come under the authority of the FDA, through provisions under the Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2000.

    The FDA will have the authority to detain food if it has credible evidence or information that imported food presents a threat of serious adverse health consequences or death to U. S. humans or animals.

    It is proposed that domestic or foreign facilities that manufacture, process, pack, distribute, receive, or hold food for consumption by humans or animals in the U.S. must register with the FDA no later than December 12, 2003.

    Life is getting very complicated!

    Tom complicated may be the understatement of the year. Unfortunately Fortress Ammericas Bunker mentallity is only going to get worse. I took some flack in Agri-Ville awhile ago about US trade practices and how I thought they where unfair.

    To all you Agri-villians get ready for some excitement as trading with the US is most likely going from tough for some industries to impossible for others.

    Unless there is a major change in US attitude, the export of all Canadian products except energy, but food in particular could get close to impossible.

    I still hold that my next vehicle will not be made by a US owned company.

      As Canadians, and I am proud to be one, we need to stand up to the U.S. and protect what we have. The first thing we should restrict for export is our power, energy and fresh water resources. They like to make things difficult, see what would happen if we did this. We, as Canadians, roll over too easily for the U.S.

      They like to have global access to energy resources but fail to realize that they need to give a little to receive alot. They are a very selfish big brother, always creating new rules to help them win the game.

          Guys...

          I see that we are going to be required to document everything we do on our farms... no matter where we are going to sell our products...

          Doing books and keeping records will become primary to marketing of our products...

          I see that TRUST in farmers is gone... and that we must admit that our world has changed... but we have nothing to hide... we just have more work to do!

            We better not bite the hand that shelters us boys. We are not an islnad unto ourselves. I love Bush compared to the likes of Saddam or Bin Laden.

            We may as well call ourselves Acanada as Americas money runs us now.

              Kernel;

              We really need to realise that until Canada becomes the 51st state of the USA... we have no "right" to sell to the US market... just because we live next door.

              I agree that the US at times does not appreciate our point of view... on the other hand... US companies have invested billions upon billions in our oil industry... don't they therefore have a inherent right to the AB. oil and Natural Gas... if avaliable at a Fair Market Price?

              Hard questions... are we a pineapple republic... would we confiscate US assets because of the way we think?

              Are we so arrogant... that we actually believe property rights only apply to just certain sectors... to just certain people...?

              Don't we all have to share this planet... no matter where we live?

                tom4cwb, grab your dictionary, inherent means "natural" or "inborn" right. Methinks the Americans do not have those kind of rights in Canada, but if they want to pay top dollar we will gladly sell them some gas! Pride and loyalty to our nation might go a long way to strengthening our nation, it seems to work for our neighbors to the south.

                  DYNO:

                  If you invested billions in a foreign country...

                  to develop a energy resourses...

                  paid all the taxes requested of you... and had a market in your home country...

                  for the products you created...

                  wouldn't you claim you had the inherent (natural and inborn) right to deliver these products to your fellow countrymen (fellow countrymen who invested in you to create these energy products to start with..)?

                  Foreign investment (creating development) has had a huge impact on Alberta... and probably is the biggest difference between AB. and SK. economies today..., or am I wrong?

                    Yes actually you are wrong Tom, the biggest difference is that proven oil reserves in AB are seven times the reserves in SK. and yes I'm an Albertan! But again you do a disservice to the term inherent, more properly used by say our aboriginal friends who have lived here for thousands of years. Of course any business that makes an investment deserves a return, but make no mistake, American companies don't invest north of 49 out of some kind of misguided sympathetic benevolence for their poor Canadian cousins, its about the money, I'll say that agin, its about the money. Any self respecting American would have little respect for you for thinking otherwise.

                      Dyno;

                      I guess we can agree to disagree!

                      Sask. has, through socialistic... communistic... exproprative actions driven nearly everyone out of that province... I rest my case.

                      We AB. people have had mega benefits from US companies and people who came from the US and invested and developed Alberta...

                      Drive from Calgary to Edm. on #2... what do you see?

                      "USONA" between Red Deer and Leduc...

                      Guess what Usona means Dyno!

                      United States of North America!... right here is Alberta!

                      My grandfather was born in the USA in 1899... these people are much closer to us culturally than England... I dare say that the USA is our best neighbour.. and friend in the whole world... and DYNO... friends mean much more than just money to most people I know... How about You?

                        Tom, yes you make excellent points about friends, what I cannot understand then is why you p*** all over our friends from Saskatchewan to make your point.
                        And again with the Americans its about the money first and if that works out, hey we can be great friends too! Yeah my grandparents came from America too, yippee!

                          Dyno;

                          Alberta has had a great benefit from the Sask. migration out of their province...

                          Why they honestly believe what they do...
                          obviously there is nothing I can do about it...

                          so why do you accuse me of being nasty...? I was being honest... wasn't I?

                          Obviously there are communist farming areas in Alberta that are far worse than many areas in Sask...do you think?
                          I have good friends in Sask.... probably more there than anywhere else on planet earth...

                          Sadly for my Sask. friends... they feel powerless to stop generations of socialist/communist tradition that has caused such problems for them...

                          North Dakota is much like Sask.... so this problem obviously occurs on both sides of the 49th!

                            Tom you must have really having a bad day after 9:11. the first time I read any of your stuff was in a post 9:11 blurb you put out saying the USA had just received what they deserved for the crappy foreign policy they have.

                            Now here you are talking about your biggest and best friends in the whole world.

                            Tom in general I would rather have the US next to us over any other country in the world. But American Protectionism should be met with Canadian Protectionism point for point.

                            US Investment is good, but countervailing duties, or tarrifs on exportable energy should be ratched up against restriction on lumber, grain and food imported from Canada.

                            I am Canadian I am proud to be Canadian. But for all of you out there that really think we would be better off to be American should move down there. Tom it may be time for you to show us all your Old Glory Underware. I think you just may be a closet American

                              Rain;

                              I am just a plain old human being... not an alien... not anything but a member of the human race... plain and simple!

                              I have a very simple conviction... I am to Love my neighbour as my self... and... Greater Love has no-one than this... to lay down his life for his freinds... and since all my neighbours are my friends...

                              I must treat everyone the same!

                              Doesn't matter if they are Iraqi, Chinese, Canadian, American, or North Korean... I have the same obligation to every person... no matter where they come from!

                              I have roots in the US... yes... roots in Sask., Norway, England... the world is a smaller and smaller place every day!

                              Since we are all God's childern... we need to be considerate for and of each other... and we need to respect and learn... each day... what our purpose on this little planet is all about!

                              I have not changed my opinion on the evil that happens every day of the week... in every country around our globe...

                              Non-violence is the only acceptable solution... to our problems... yet violence occurs every day... cause we do not live in a perfect world.

                              I am required to Love humanity... and look at what is happening from all perspectives... with an open mind!

                              Hope this helps... Life is complicated no question Rain!

                              Who is Right, who is Wrong... it many times depends where you are sitting to how you see it!
