Periods of upheaval and unrest or catastrophic events can change the value of a medium of exchange. Even gold.

If paper fails its very unlikely that people will be hoodwinked again to accept any type of paper promise for physical gold or silver. The previous gold standard was not a true gold standard because only nation states could be repatriated with their gold and was uterly a fraud. And yes a system of currency wether it takes the form of paper, salt, leathers, or gold must hold the value of everything else in existance. Gold always rises to the top as currency.

As long as I have a few cows, chickens and a garden, no mortgage, I will feel pretty well off.....but gold is easier to lock up.....just a bi #h to eat.....
