    Grain Deliveries and Space

I averaged the available space(from Weber's news letter) in the three Prairie provinces and came up with about 48% available space. If you wanted to, are you able to deliver grain or the type of grain you want?

    Are contracts being called early?

      The Canadian Grain Act reads:

      60. Subject to section 58 and any order made under section 118, the operator of every licensed primary elevator shall, at all reasonable hours on each day on which the elevator is open, without discrimination and in the order in which grain arrives and is lawfully offered at the elevator, receive into the elevator all grain so lawfully offered for which there is, in the elevator, available storage accommodation of the type required by the person by whom the grain is offered.

No way, am waiting to deliver Sept pea contracts that keep getting pushed back with every possible excuse being given. We definitely need stronger producer contracts.

I haven't heard of any problems and I'm not having problems because I'm not selling right now. Just curious.

wmoebis, they must be able to manage their space as they see fit. I assume your quote means they can't refuse you delivery or ration delivery to accommodate one Producer over another?

food4u, in your situation I would think an advance on the grain of 75% of the value plus storage should be offered. Some people sign contracts for sale and movement for cash flow and payment reasons.

I guess the only way to find out would be to challenge it and see what the CGC does with it, in todays environment. I do know of cases in the past where it was upheld and elevator found the space real fast.

At the space available and the weather there is something wrong with the picture.

No elevator should be that empty.

Nor should contracts be waiting to be called in.

Why is it that two parties sign the contract but only one has responsibility.

If Harper/Ritz would have filled the chairs of Assistant Commissioners or listened to their own review called 'Compas Review (2006)' and established a "Grain Farmers Advocacy Board" maybe we would have a venue to bring our concerns to. Other than social media!
                  Job well 1/2 done!

Same problem last year with winter wheat. CGC said I had to wait 90 days. So after 90 days I contacted the CGC again and all it took was the mention of a compliance officers name and things moved real fast. It is hard to do income planning and meet financial needs when one side of the equation does not want to play fairly. I guess that is strike two for them.

                      Dragged his feet on cool.

Did a half assed job on the implementation of the open market in canada.

                      Gutted everything.

And he is the man in battlefords.

                      On the outside looking in.

He can't say a word because the first line back to him will be ...." you had 8 years to do something gerry....."

Elevators have space in this area. I was going to move durum, just to take some out of each bin and rather than re-binning called in and they had lots of space. When I was hauling they did cut off canola deliveries but only until train this week. Flax contract went early, and lentil contracts are long gone, next lentil contract is for Nov-Dec and I've been told it will go on time. Canola contracts to this point have been on schedule or ahead of schedule. Weyburn area.

Local elevator that I haul to is a good 2-3 weeks behind schedule already. Still waiting to haul in oct del canola and it will be a couple of weeks yet before I can haul it all in. As always (according to them) the railway is already a couple weeks behind.

And if all the elevators are so empty where are the good basis's. If the canola pipeline at bunge is empty, why does the plant in Dixon have the worst basis in the area.

Lots of delivery opportunities in northeast Sask.
All of our contracts were delivered on schedule and some were called in early.
Waiting to be called for December contracts now.

Grain companies seem very eager to buy grain.
