Hobby - That's not a slight against you or organics. If that's the way you choose to operate your business then all the power to you. To say Organics have had to discover new market strategies is like saying you found a unicorn. Organic farmer deal with buyers just as a conventional farmers. Just not the same buyers in almost all cases. Slap organic in the packaging. Bash conventional farming and bam there your holier then all marketing strategy. Not rocket science my friend. If you represent less the 1% of farmers you should not have the chance to represent the other 99% and decide where my check off dollars go.

I think I will start asking for my money back.

1. We don't need this many commissions.
2. Research into better varieties when the graincos are paying for 3 or better durum and no protein premiums? And wheat doesn't move so now sell it as feed?
3. The transportation system doesn't allow more than 40 mmt to be moved in 1 crop year.

4. Too much outside influence with the candidates. Doesn't matter whether it's the nfu or team wheat someone has a prescribed agenda.

Not all Boards the same.

The Sask Pulse Board has made an immeasurable amount of difference to farm life in my neck of the woods and several other areas of this province .

Since the day of the famous Laird lentil and many new pea varieties, I can't count how many successes came out of the U of S under Slinkard and Robin. I haven't seen much from other boards though - yet.

I have kept up with newer pea varieties and better agronomic practices only to see yields smaller than when I grew Carneval peas in the late 90s.

But do agree the sask pulse model seems like one to follow. Or join to let them work the checkoff dollars.

It would be nice to see a commentary like what the north dakota wheat commission does.
