    Dry in the future

Some cheer for the guys who suffer from too much water. Some concern for most of us.

If it's looking dry like last year in the spring - does a guy seed the farm to green feed?

Grassfarmer there has always been a concern for drought when running cows.Having grass in the pallister triangle our past 60 years of grass management and stocking rates are always decided by mother nature.

For us wet guys lets hope its not 15 inches of rain instead of 20..

In a snow storm right now..so the dry is not here yet..

I hate to beat a dead horse, as I have likely said this before. But from all the info I can gather, our careers, have occurred during some of the wettest and most stable weather that the prairies have ever seen. A return to "normal" will be painful for most. The If and the When being harder to figure out.

I agree AF5 I've said the same thing on here often. Risk is not just to ranchers in the Pallister triangle but to all of western Canadian agriculture.

I'm sure after a month of drought no one would be crying harder than you SF3.

The dry guys do not get it, they simply do not get it. Water is running in the fields, under the snow. This is tied for the wettest it has been on this farm at this time of year in it's history. The other year was the fall of 2009. In 2010, I never seeded a single acre.

Not looking too hot for 16.

We need several years of much dryer than normal temperature to get back to historical reason.

I have to admit, it was fun this morning deer hunting on my private, inacessible to anyone but me piece of land that has been unreachable since 2005.

They are feeding in my unharvested because it is too wet faba beans, and bedding and breeding in the field that is too wet to access. I couldn't take a shot, because the huge cattail marsh that I used to farm, offered him too much cover. I also should mention that I went through the ice in the cattails, up to my crotch, where I used to grow big crops, on what was our best land on the farm.

If wildlife and habitat paid the bills, I would be a rich, rich man thanks to it being too wet!

But for farming, drier is welcome news. 1988, the "dry 30's". 2002 and 2003? It was PERFECT in our area those years.

                Then it went to pot.

                How do standing fabas winter?

I agree Free..The dry guys just don't understand, because you have to live it..to believe it..Not different than if we were in a dry area forever..
Guys making V ditches with water running behind them..Next spring will be wet even if we get zero snow..

Totally agree with you free even the old man on this farm like the one who has been here for 80 years has never seen water like this. black standing canola still out in the field in areas where we couldn't swath a real night mare. Then being fined by water stewardship for making a v ditch out of those spots cause she says there wetlands yes standing black canola are considerd wetlands here in Manitoba lovley NDP. bring on the cocktail Friday SF3!!!
