Dekalb wants to control the Data

Have you seen the Very expensive Dekalb advertising sleeve in the western producer, titled we let our data talk?
    I Just canceled 100bags of 7565 Dekalb.
Dekalb decided to not participate in 3rd party unbiased grower funded http://www.canolaperformancetrials.ca
Dekalb (and pioneer hybrids) will give you
some very credible reasons why they pulled out (most of them unfounded), yet their true motivation is controlling the data and marketing message.
Imagine a car company not wanting to advertise gas mileage in consumer guides.
Dekalb and Pioneer are taking advantage of farmers'trust.
Consider the timing of the very expensive Dekalb Canola seed Western Producer advertising sleeve at the exact same time as the release of the grower funded canola performance trial booklet...
There is not much doubt that they want THEIR data to talk... Well I will let my money talk, 100 bags cancelled, no Dekalb or Pionneer products on my farm unless the performance of the product is Head and shoulder above the competitors, or they decide to play fair and participate in a 3rd party evaluation like the Canola performance trials.
Farmers, do not let these companies abuse your trust!

Expect that Dekalb and John Deere have looked at farmer back lash over sellers owning and controlling data collected on their products.
Doubt that individual farmer buying activity over it is a big concern just yet, have to see how it plays out.

There is enough glyphosate used on this farm already so we opt for one of the other options. Ya ya ya, I know Liberty is shit.

Find a variety that you like, grow 80 acres of it and you'll have as much seed as you want until you want to change varieties again. People do it all the time around here. They usually get ahead alot faster than the guys who don't!!!

        5% less yeild using bin run...on 40 bu/ac thats only 2 bushels...times $10/bu is a twenty dollar loss but a $50-$60 savings on seed costs....net $30-$40/acre savings....only $4800-$6400 per 160 acres. Multiply that over your farm. ...

Might have spritz it with an insectide.....the seed applied stuff is shit anyway....

What do you want to buy and make payments on with the yearly savings? How many hot holidays could you go on?

Slow down Franky, maybe its because the canola performance program is broken and companies are tired of poor data that is completely irrelevant after the fact that 80 to 90% of the seed is already bought?

Who actually does the work of the small plot and large plot trials?

seed may be bought . but if the trials come out your losing 5-10%, you will be rethinking for next year.
there has to be some independent verification of yield potential for the industry.
it seems like a no brainier to me.
how much work is it for each farmer to get their own useful data.
                almost impossible.
let's just base our decisions on a company rep's BS and how hot the babe is in the commercial.

Is there no useful data until seeding? Oh yea, its all bought before January 1 for "early buy special discounts" or tax purposes. Take the shit back (aka don't pick it up) and choose something else. Oh yea but all the "good stuff" will be gone, everything thats left is infererior because it yeilds 5% less(sarcasm).

BP, what does clubroot have to do with this. Buy some "resistant" seed, grow it, clean a bunch, seed it EVERY FOURTH YEAR with a proper rotation.....rinse and repeat.

Bullshit there no usefull data before you buy your seed. Data is multi year not one year. If we had several years of multi site data 3rd party we would have something. The RR guys know their canola doesn't match invigor so they won't play ball, they don't have the balls.

This company submitted data is complete bullshit, the vast majority of the trials aren't properly replicated and yes they include some where they lose but do they include every site where they lose?

****ing drives me crazy that the canola grower groups can take checkoff money buy can't provide us with proper trials to make decisions. If DeKalb won't put their variety in go buy a bag and hire a third party to do it.

Actually that is more Bayer bgmb, Dekalb is one of the few that actually posts trials even if all their stuff is last. Pioneer doesn't really put in competitor, so its pure marketing.

Bayer takes weeks to post data, Dekalb does it in 48 hours. Just what is Bayer doing in the meantime?

Replication can be done 2 ways, replicate over location, replicate by multiple strips in the same location.

What most guys don't realize is Bayer cuts a strip in half and calls it a replication - but does less then a quarter of the trials Dekalb does. Its all on the websites in black and white if you look past the ads. I've done both Bayers and Dekalb plots here in Sask, Bayer is much better at marketing.

Franky and his little band of merry men probably pissed most companies off with simply being unfair and misrepresentation.

If no one cares about the results, why the hell do companies do them in the first place?

You gonna post and run Frank or want to discuss this?

Best to compare brands on your own farm...We all have different soil types, and fert amounts...
