    What dalek said.

We all know that a business cannot operate forever by trying to debt-spend its way into prosperity, especially by making bad investments.

How can a government expect a better outcome?

Waterfalls for power generation - build waterfalls. If they damn up the South Saskatchewan for power generation, that might be one make work project. Grant Devine still around?

We have enough water flow and enough rivers to power North America

Comments more on the attitude than the article.. assume it was the article by Kelly Parkland.
I do get it...and I do shake my head in distain...but regardless of party, we seem to get the same crap. Here in Alberta, we had great power rates, then king Ralph and cronies decided that deregulations was the answer. (And then Jim Dinning left the conservative party to be vice president of Trans Alta Utilities) My last bill was over $.11 per kwh and this is mostly on conventional power.
So, although I spun off in another direction, I guess my point(s), somewhere along the line, we should look at alternatives and they will be costly initially ...and it really doesn't matter which party...it's politics.
I humbly give back your post...;-)

Dalek. It's considered dirty hydro power when you flood treed valleys. Just ask Quebec wanting power lines into the states to export their hydropower. Perhaps the same result as Keystone XL.

              Speaking of dams:
I know to some this is "wishy washy", but as I get older, my thinking is changing...there really is a greater good...everything shouldn't revolve around some corp making money...and as more of the common class dip into equities, it is even more prevalent.
See both sides of this one, but starting to lean towards the "greeny" side...

We don't need to flood anything. There are all kinds of existing dams in Ontario, either for ice control or abandoned sawmill or gristmill dams, that can be retrofit with a small scale turbine that will make lots of power without affecting anything

dalek, I've thought the same - why not spend some money on refurbishing and equipping those old dams and turning them into an electricity source that runs 24/7/365 instead of when the wind blows or the sun shines?

I don't know much about it but I would think that those dams could have been set up for a small fraction of the cost of the greed energy scheme that the McWynnty Liberals miscreated.

Even some of the smaller dams would put out more electricity than a solar panel. And produce 100% of the time.

Too practical, maybe, and far less opportunity for the colossal scale of graft that accompanies the Liberal style?

There are 2-3 that have been done here and seem to work great with a relatively small pricetag. I guess the water turbine manufacturers must suck at "lobbying" or something

Dams seem to make sense, until they are in our back yard....
